Historia
A biting satire about a young man's isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty's The Sellout showcases a comic genius at the top of his game. It challenges the sacred tenets of the United States Constitution, urban life, the civil rights movement, the father-son relationship, and the holy grail of racial equality: the black Chinese restaurant.

Confounding
Revisado: 08-16-23
While I am trying to figure out what I liked about this story. which i did. I am also trying to figure out what I did not like about it.
When I first started listening, I thought this was a YA book (youg adult). written fairly simply, I believe the author has written kids' books, but looking it up, I found that this wasn't one.
The story, despite the narration - so-so , progressed from simple to interesting to engrossing. to ending up as "pretty good overall"
I also learned more about whale anatomy then I ever thought I'd ever need to know.

Almost great.
Revisado: 01-22-22
Maybe I'm too shallow to appreciate a moralizing diversion from a really good story. I was very much enjoying the story until it took a good plot turn. And immediately another turn from enjoyable narrative to mildly confusing narrative.
Finally the ending went full circle and ended well, but the middle didn't rock my world.
2/3 of very good novel.

Baseball and a thriller, YES
Revisado: 10-22-21
I love baseball, history and thrillers... This story hits a homerun using all three.
Full disclosure: I never knew of this book, I recently had a chance meeting with the author in a park and when I got home I looked up his work and chose this story based on our chat about baseball.
What a great story that brings us to a favorite baseball era with a twist.

If you like action adventure this is a good read
Revisado: 10-03-21
a good story with Dick Hill reading can't be bad. . my only complaint, but maybe good complaint. is it's so much like the Jack Reacher stories I thought it was a Lee Child. book.. But since I like those this was ok.
Also since I'm pretty much caught up with those and the John Puller books I've now got more to read

Historia
In 2008, a cheerful ambulance-chasing lawyer named Jay Shenk persuades the grieving Keener family to sue a private LA hospital. Their son, Wesley, has been transformed by a routine surgery into a kind of golem, absent all normal functioning or personality, walking in endless empty circles around his hospital room. In 2019, Shenk - still in practice but a shell of his former self - is hired to defend Wesley Keener’s father when he is charged with murder...the murder, as it turns out, of the expert witness from the 2008 hospital case.

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

Historia
On a cool June evening in 2009, after performing a concert at London's Royal Academy of Music, 20-year-old American flautist Edwin Rist boarded a train for a suburban outpost of the British Museum of Natural History. Home to one of the largest ornithological collections in the world, the Tring museum was full of rare bird specimens whose gorgeous feathers were worth staggering amounts of money to the men who shared Edwin's obsession: the Victorian art of salmon fly-tying. Once inside the museum, the champion fly-tier grabbed hundreds of bird skins - some collected 150 years earlier.
