And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Touched my Heart
Revisado: 11-14-24
I loved this book. I could not put it down. I felt engrossed in the lives of the characters. It was sad but it was real. My overwhelming feeling was admiration for their survival and the emotional cost of a time gone by. I loved the Irish narration and am searching for similar books/stories. A great debut novel.

Historia
In recent years, intermittent fasting - restricting calorie intake for a set number of hours or days - has become an increasingly popular diet strategy. While some in the medical community initially dismissed the idea as a dangerous fad, recent research not only validates the safety of fasting for weight loss but also offers compelling evidence of wide-ranging health benefits, from reversal of diabetes and other metabolic disorders to enhanced cognitive function and increased longevity.

Historia
Cilka was only 16 years old when she was taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp, in 1942. The Commandant at Birkenau, Schwarzhuber, noticed her long beautiful hair, and forced her separation from the other women prisoners. Cilka did what she had to in order to survive Auschwitz. And yet after Russian soldiers liberated Auschwitz in 1945, Cilka was charged as a collaborator and sentenced to serve a 15-year sentence for 'sleeping with the enemy'. Once again, she found herself on a brutal train journey, crammed into a carriage with many desperate women and children.

Look inside
Revisado: 04-16-24
I liked the stories and the individual focus. Lots of great ideas are shared and I’m very open to understanding shame. I felt it was a little heavy on the women only side which I find tiresome these days but appreciate that it’s written in a specific time in history. Well worth listening too as Brene has so much to offer.
