Well researched and informative without being dry
Revisado: 12-02-23
Comparisons to today and opinions were sometimes expressed but openly and appropriately. Also enough gossip or innuendo of the time to make the account more alive than just a dry recitation of facts. One got a real sense of the people and the times,as well as the facts. If more history was written like this, more people would study it. Excellent book!

Boring and longwinded
Revisado: 08-09-23
Like another reviewer said, skip the beginning. After this, you will learn nothing new if you know your Bible. Some catholic ideas, such as Mary having been immaculately conceived herself are included too, even though this is not in the Bible. Am sorry I used a credit on this.

Historia
A lone narrator meets a railway worker who is confined to a cold, gloomy station in a deep cutting near a tunnel entrance. This worker is a signalman, and it is his responsibility to give the green light for trains to pass through the area. These are slow, monotonous days. The signalman’s life is not marked by much, until the nightmares begin. Three times in a row, a ghost mysteriously appears before the signalman – and with each apparition, a tragic accident unfolds on the rail tracks. Although our narrator doubts the man at first, events soon make him a believer too.

The story was predictable but so well written that it was thoroughly enjoyable. The sound effects were wonderful and the narrator did a perfect job. Loved it!

Somewhat disappointed
Revisado: 04-17-23
Expected more about the UFOs and less personal and family stuff. Some is needed for full perspective but it was too much and too little about the actual subject of the book. Too much also about bad receptions etc. I got so tired of the “filler “ that I didn’t finish the book. It dragged and was stupendously boring. The narrative was slangy in tone and irritating to the ear too,so that didn’t help, although it was usually understandable. Not recommended.

Like another reviewer, I consider this the best book on this subject that I’ve read, but would have loved that it contained updates on the subject. I also liked the narrator, where otherwise excellent books I have listened to were nearly ruined by bad narration. As the daughter of a Navy submarine officer, I remember the places and happenings described well, and appreciate the seeming accuracy.

You may know something of the Hitler story. But there’s a decent chance you don’t know the half of it. We begin a deep dive into the early years of a man who became the very embodiment of evil. Peeling away Hitler’s own myths about his childhood, we explore how he emerged from obscurity. The future German Führer isn’t born in Germany. Growing up in Austria, he clashes with his father but idolises his mother. Abandoning schoolwork, young Adolf dedicates himself to the artistic life, hoping to make it as a painter. Although I already knew a lot about Hitler, I learned from this. My only complaint is that one of the narrators has a very annoying voice and speech pattern. It is drawn out, slow, and in a whining tone.

Historia
In every hospital emergency department there is a room reserved for trauma. It is a place where life and death are separated by the thinnest of margins. A place where some families celebrate the most improbable of victories while others face the most devastating of losses. A place where what matters the most in this life is revealed. Trauma Room Two is just such a place. In this collection of short stories, Dr. Green takes the listener inside the hidden emotional landscape of emergency medicine.

WAY too wordy
Revisado: 02-28-23
I was really disappointed with this book. I expected unique ER situations with solutions. Instead, the first chapter was a description/fantasy about the people waiting with the patient and about one sentence with the patient dying. The second chapter was, again, almost all imaginings about the patient. Not any substance …drawn out …painfully. I had to laugh when I read another review because I stopped reading at the same exact place as this other reviewer…it must be the end point of endurance..1.5 chapters. The soccer imaginings were the last straw. By far, one of the worst books I’ve TRIED to read!

Historia
Using his own experiences, log books, and correspondence with other U-boat crewmen, Hans Goebeler offers rich and personal details about what life was like in the German Navy under Hitler. Since his first and last posting was to U-505, Goebeler's perspective of the crew, commanders, and war patrols paints a vivid and complete portrait unlike any other to come out of the Kriegsmarine. He witnessed it all, from deadly sabotage efforts that almost sunk the boat to the tragic suicide of the only U-boat commander who took his life during World War II.

Great memoir, bad narration
Revisado: 02-28-23
This story was informative, believable, and from a personal, authoritative perspective not often shared. Unfortunately, the narration was so irritating that I had to force myself to listen to it. This would easily be a five star book if the narration was different. Many people won’t know how good the book is because they won’t be able to stand to listen to it.

Gunter K. Koschorrek was a machine-gunner on the Russian front in WWII. He wrote his illicit diary on any scraps of paper he could lay his hands on. As keeping a diary was strictly forbidden, he sewed the pages into the lining of his thick winter coat and deposited them with his mother on infrequent trips home on leave. The diary went missing, and it was when he was reunited with his daughter in America some 40 years later that it came to light and became Blood Red Snow.

Excellent memoir, British accent distracting
Revisado: 02-22-23
My only problem with this was that the narrator’s obvious British accent for a German character was distracting and a disconnect. If I were British, it probably wouldn’t have stood out so much to me, but, as an American, it interfered somewhat with my picturing of the German character.
