Psychedelics are in vogue again. No longer are they promoted solely by hippies and cultural outsiders. The potential benefits of LSD, mushrooms, and ayahuasca are now being touted by major cultural influencers, tech titans, and academia. It seems a matter of time before our laws loosen and the use of these drugs becomes mainstream. This book outlines the science, philosophy, and theology behind psychedelic drugs and how they have historically affected individuals and societies. It is a wild story with many unexpected twists and turns.

This certainly is a Christian perspective. It reads like religious pseudo science and the connections, in many cases, can be argued.
However, it is an interesting perspective, and one that certainly bears consideration despite apparent confirmation biases.
There is a compelling argument here, from a Christian perspective, which echoes arguments in traditional cultures which did NOT devolve into snake cult behaviors. And, which is very relevant to any discussion on the issue of legalizing drugs.

Very disappointing
Revisado: 07-24-22
The lecturer is too fond of including personal opinions, pushing opinions based on cherry picked and circumstantial data. She uses her platform to promote liberal activism and utterly fails at any semblance of professional scientific objectivity or detachment.

Historia
An unimpeachable classic work in political philosophy, intellectual and cultural history, and economics, The Road to Serfdom has inspired and infuriated politicians, scholars, and the public for half a century. Originally published in 1944 - when Eleanor Roosevelt supported the efforts of Stalin, and Albert Einstein subscribed lock, stock, and barrel to the socialist program - The Road to Serfdom was seen as heretical for its passionate warning against the dangers of state control over the means of production.

An absolute must read, debunking modern myths about a number of historical fallacies held in common today, and at least as relevant now as it ever has been.

Historia
1812. Arriving back in England after his successes in the Adriatic, Captain Sir Thomas Kydd is bestowed with honours. In London, he's greeted by the Prince Regent, who, despite Kydd's protestations that he's happy with his present command, insists he be given a bigger ship - HMS Thunderer, a 74-gun ship of the line. But she's old, and being part of a standing fleet, Kydd's chances of further fame and distinction are slim indeed.

Historia
These wide-ranging essays - on many individual political, economic, cultural, and legal issues - have as a recurring, underlying theme the decline of the values and institutions that have sustained and advanced American society for more than two centuries. This decline has been more than erosion. It has, in many cases, been a deliberate dismantling of American values and institutions by people convinced that their superior wisdom and virtue must override both the traditions of the country and the will of the people.

Historia
Perfect for fans of Patrick O'Brian, Bernard Cornwell and swashbuckling adventure during the great Age of Sail: To the Eastern Seas is the 22nd novel in Julian Stockwin's acclaimed Thomas Kydd series. With Bonaparte held to a stalemate in Europe, the race to empire is now resumed. Britain's ambitions turn to the Spice Islands, the Dutch East Indies, where Admiral Pellew has been sent to confront the enemy's vastly rich holdings in these tropical islands. Captain Sir Thomas Kydd joins reinforcements to snatch these for the British Crown.

Historia
Captain Carlisle hails from Virginia, a loyal colony of the British Crown. As the clouds of war gather, Carlisle's small frigate is ordered to Toulon on a reconnaissance mission. If battling the winter weather in the Gulf of Lions is not a sufficient challenge, Carlisle must also juggle the delicate diplomatic issues in this period of pre-war tension while contending with an increasingly belligerent French frigate. But Carlisle has additional problems unique to his colonial origins.

Historia
At the time of the French Revolution, one of Britain's most skillful naval officers, Charles Saunders Hayden, is a young lieutenant, the son of an English father and a French mother. His abilities and his loyalty to the king of England are beyond dispute, yet his career seems doomed by his "mixed" heritage and lack of political connections. Consequently, Hayden is assigned to an aging frigate, the Themis, under the command of Captain Josiah Hart, a man known as "Faint Hart" throughout the service.

Very enjoyable covering a wide range of topics and scenarios in the life of a sea officer of the British Navy early in the Napoleonic Wars. Not, my self, particularly interested in Courts Martial at the time, but is relevant to revealing the pervasive and perverse nature of the cronyism inherent at the time.

Historia
1811. The Adriatic, the 'French Lake', is now the most valuable territory Napoleon Bonaparte possesses. Captain Sir Thomas Kydd finds his glorious return to England cut short when the Admiralty summons him to lead a squadron of frigates into these waters to cause havoc and distress to the enemy. Kydd is dubbed 'The Sea Devil' by Bonaparte who personally appoints one of his favourites, Dubourdieu, along with a fleet that greatly outweighs the British, to rid him of this menace.
