Historia
This series of short, fictional vignettes explores our day-to-day interactions with an ever-elusive and arbitrary God. It's the Book of Common Prayer as seen through a looking glass - a powerfully vivid collection of seemingly random life moments. The figures that haunt these stories range from Kafka (talking to a fish) to the Aztecs, Tolstoy to Abraham and Sarah, O. J. Simpson to a pack of wolves. Most of Williams' characters, however, are like the rest of us.

Short short flash fiction.

Not for me. Won’t remember a single one of the 99. Uninspiring. Would much rather read a book of aphorisms.

Historia
Georges Simenon's tragic tale of lost identity, translated by David Coward as part of the new Penguin Maigret series. What was the woman doing here? In a stable, wearing pearl earrings, her stylish bracelet and white buckskin shoes! She must have been alive when she got there because the crime had been committed after ten in the evening. But how? And why? And no one had heard a thing! She had not screamed. The two carters had not woken up.

The canals and horses.
Revisado: 12-23-23
Far from Simenon’s best. A bit hard to follow. Narrator did a fine job, but the storyline was lacking. Only Maigret novel I found disappointing so far.

Historia
Newly married and navigating life with a preschooler as well as her adopted adolescent son, Manon Bradshaw is happy to be working part-time in the cold-cases department of the Cambridgeshire police force, a job that allows her to potter in, coffee in hand, and log on for a spot of Internet shopping - precisely what she had in mind when she thought of work-life balance.

Outstanding!
Revisado: 07-20-23
May be the best of the three Manon Bradshaw novels but they were all good. Sad to think of the author’s passing.

Historia
The first audiobook which appeared in Georges Simenon's famous Maigret series, in a gripping new translation by David Bellos.Inevitably Maigret was a hostile presence in the Majestic. He constituted a kind of foreign body that the hotel's atmosphere could not assimilate. Not that he looked like a cartoon policeman. He didn't have a moustache and he didn't wear heavy boots. His clothes were well cut and made of fairly light worsted. He shaved every day and looked after his hands. But his frame was proletarian. He was a big, bony man.

Not one Simenon’s best
Revisado: 03-29-20
First in the Margaret series. Simenon definitely got better at his craft. The narrator does an admirable job.
