Historia
After a startling betrayal ends with both Sera and the dangerously seductive ruler of the Shadowlands she has fallen madly in love with being held captive by the false King of the Gods, there is only one thing that can free Nyktos and prevent the forces of the Shadowlands from invading Dalos and igniting a War of Primals. Convincing Kolis won’t be easy, though–not even with a lifetime of training.

filler season
Revisado: 11-04-23
I am hearby vowing not to buy anymore 3rd installments of any of JLA books, I will simply look up a spoiler page or some type of cliff notes. This is not anime ma'am, you cannot just put in a filler season and hope it's cute enough to get by. I'm not even half way through and had to go read reviews to see if it gets better, apparently it does not. I will finish this book, eventually, just for the sake of the series, but this is not the first time she has done this. it seems like the other longer series she writes has the same issue with the 3rd book. slow, torturous inner monolog that goes nowhere for a majority of the book, then some story progress at the very end. and for the love Chocolate stop making it seem like women are incapable of handling their impulses and emotions! "Omg he's so terrible, how ever will I be able to sleep with him so I can get him in a compromising position and kill him?!" PUT YOUR BIG GIRL PANTIES ON! oh wait, he didn't give you panties, lololol...I'm going to get flack for this, but any woman out there that hasn't gone to bed with someone to get something they wanted...well bless your woefully unsullied heart...but here is the thing, Sera is not that person, she has openly admitted to sleeping with strangers at what is essentially a brothel on several occasions. " the embers started vibrating, and I could help it I..."<---insert whatever stupid thing Sera did here. over and over and over. 2/3 of this book is an elaboration on the story Eios told us about her time with Kolis. or telling us about the ascended, which we have FBAA for. whatever other scraps of relevant unknown information that is contained in this portion of the book could have, and should have, been presented in a more concise manner. We know how this story ultimately ends because of FBAA, this book needs meat and potatoes topped with gravy, but right now I'm sifting through the gravy to find substance.

Historia
With war looming, Emelin's plan is simple: break the Mother's bindings while her more diplomacy-minded friends persuade the rest of the world to join their rebellion. Unfortunately, their would-be allies are far too concerned about Em's exact connection to the feared and hated Silent Death. They might risk their lives for the world's only unbound mage, but they'll never fight for a fae prince's puppet. Forced to hide the explosive secret of their love, Em and Creon journey to the plague-cursed continent to learn more about the bindings.

I love this series
Revisado: 11-02-23
This is one of my favorite series. I highly recommend it. with that said the FMC spends the entire book in her inner monolog trying to justify keeping Creon her dirty secret, or freaking out about disappointing the entire world and it makes her seem really weak which is really out of character for her. I can't wait for the next book, because even tho there was a lot of necessary information in this one it didn't progress the story as much as a book of this size should have.

it's a really good series
Revisado: 10-30-23
the series is really good, especially when you start getting more of the groups pov in later books. it is very similar to acotar, but it's different enough for me to feel like it has it's own things going on. I am taking a star away because the fmc has a complete mental breakdown any time she feels wronged. it gets pretty insufferable, to a point I wish they would just knock her out for a few chapters so I could get a break from her.

The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

at least the narration was good I guess...
Revisado: 10-29-23
I will start out by saying I'm 11+ hours into this book and I have no idea why adeline is called the manipulator, and there is nothing to suggest she can do anything with anyone's emotions. she is a super famous author, but there is zero mention of what she writes about, her stalker doesn't even bring it up, and he is stalking her. Adeline admits that scary stuff puts her in the mood, but then whines and cries anytime something scary happens. and there are ghosts? maybe? I'm not sure...ppl get cold in her house sometimes, lol. zade is walking hypocrite, his life mission is to stop human trafficking, child molestation, and abuse...unless he is doing the abusing? I love me a villain, forget morally grey, I'll take midnight black any day, but Zane and adelines dynamic ain't it. it's cringy at best. the best part of this book is gigis mystery murder that you get 30 second snippets of between chapters...that's right the most engaging part of this book is maybe 3 minutes in actual length. I'm trying so hard to finish this book bc I don't like to dnf, but it's hard. but nothing makes sense, I had to check that this wasn't written by a 15 yo boy trying to write about his fantasy grown up life as a mysterious white knight hacker that single handedly saves all the women in the world from old white politicians. some of the spicy scenes are good if you pretend like you didn't have to listen or read any of the rest of the book tho, so I give that a star.

Historia
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance - and healing - in each other's arms.

poor redemption book, bad narrator, bad romance
Revisado: 10-19-23
I don't like nesta. I will never like nesta. I will however tolerate nesta because she does redeem herself. sort of. the story was ok, although, I'm not a fan of kids in any way including pregnancy drama. I'm adding a huge edit after a second listen. this is a terrible romance. Cassian deserves anyone else, and Nesta deserves Eris. it makes way more sense, and wouldn't require nesta to become someone she is not. nesta would make an amazing autumn court lady, her and eris would compliment each other beautifully, they could play court chess with the rest of the lands with their wits and sharp words. plus fire and fire. instead she beats Cassian into mental pulp that will probably never love her beyond that stupid bond, or over his chosen family. and nesta is once again forced into becoming something she is not to survive in a group of people she doesn't fit in with...which is a perpetuation of the original problem. this is a lust story, not a love story. I do not believe by the end of 25 hours of book that they will stay together in the long run. did she need an intervention, yes. but not everyone needs to be a sword wielding warrior to find their strength. at no point does nesta actually accept or love herself, and eris is literally the only one who acts like he was even remotely interested in who she was without reprogramming her entirely. But if any of that happened, Maas couldn't have pushed the nesta must give up everything she earned in the previous books to save feyre from a dangerous pregnancy plot (which as stated above I already could have done without)
the narrator is a huge problem. she goes from screaming to whispering all in one sentence, trying to make the book convey emotion I guess. it's overly dramatic and had me constantly adjusting the volume because one second it's so loud the next door neighbor can hear it so I lower the volume then suddenly she is whispering and I have to backtrack and up the volume to hear what was said. she also barely changes voices for characters, it's extremely hard to tell who is talking. like I can't always tell if a man is talking vs a woman. this book needed a male narrator badly because a lot of the book is in cassians head and from his perspective, and apparently his inner voice is a dramatic woman.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

I liked this book, but I have questions
Revisado: 10-18-23
I'm going to start off with the good. I liked the book overall. I'm easy to please tho, give me tall dark and handsome with all the tropes, I don't care, I eat that stuff up. the idea is great, and I like the characters. I plan to read the next the book as well.
BUT, I have questions. spoiler warning I guess...
what exactly is wrong with violet? yes, yes, I know I can Google her symptoms and make a good guess, but that's not good enough. why are they weeding out so many cadets when there is a general shortage of fighters? I get getting disqualified, burned alive for messing with the dragons, or even general violence among cadets as being overlooked...but outright letting 100s of cadets just die seems like an obvious problem. I'm not entirely sure why the dragons take rider's at all, the riders don't bring enough to the table imo. Why did they give all the rebels kids access to dragons? makes zero sense, like none, none at all. Why is xaden making a saddle for violets dragon so amazing? why are they not already using saddles? has no one, not a single person, in the entire history of riding any animal, not thought a saddle would be beneficial?
and here is my absolute biggest question. HOW IN THE EVER LOVING HOLY FUDGE ROUNDS DID JACK BOND WITH ANY DRAGON AFTER TRYING TO KILL THE FEATHER TAIL!!??? like dragons are smart, hate terrible people, have an excess amount of honor, and value their young above all else...but let's just throw all that out the window and bond the most dishonorable baby murdering ahole in the book.

mixed feelings
Revisado: 10-14-23
so I'm writing this review during my second read of this book. this is one of the first romance books I ever read, and I loved it. since then, I have read A LOT of romance books. I decided to listen to this one again because I loved it so much, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how I finished it. list and spoilers incoming:
1. you cannot remove (imprison) and attempt to replace the main love interest, it is awkward and weird, and keiran is now essentially a rebound guy poppy got attached to.
2. what do you mean how do they know all your plans? you tell anyone and everyone what you are planning, especially the people that openly distrust/dislike you.
3. I am going to punch a hole in my wall if poppy rationalizes not killing one more person who obviously deserves it.
4. omfg move the story along.
5. I'll do anything for him...except rescue him in a timely manner. better attack some cities really far away first.
6. this is actually a game show called "what will poppy be this week"
7. bad choice in voice actors for Casteel. the guy is not a bad voice actor, but he is a really bad fit for Casteel.
I will still give it 3 stars, I have definitely listened to worse books, and I'm sure I will finish the series because it will bother me if I don't at this point. maybe. if the internet notifies me to do so.

the series is great, this book is not
Revisado: 10-03-23
ok so I'm on my second listen through this series, and knowing what I know now, this particular book makes sense...a lot of things that seem obviously dumb, like the fmc falling in love with her captor, her starting out strong to become a whiney weakling while with tamlin, very little self improvement, and the general blandness of the romance actually has a point. unfortunately that point isn't really clear until the next book...so where I would give every other book in this series 4 or 5 stars this is a 3 at best.
as far as the narrator goes, she could give more emotion to the characters, and a couple of single line of male dialog are not even in male voices and it very obviously sounds like feyre is talking to herself. but overall I have heard much worse and it didn't make me want to return it or anything.

I make a living out of screwing over the jerks who capture and torment supernatural beasties. But when I free a bunch of particularly powerful monsters from their cages, I'm not counting on them following me home like lost puppies - stunningly hot lost puppies, but still. These manly monsters are determined to repay me for my help, and they won't get out of my apartment, until they're satisfied we're even. There's something to be said for allies so devoted they'll tear off heads and shred souls on your behalf. I'm all for joining forces.

hard to finish
Revisado: 09-21-23
ok so the girl doesn't learn to properly wield or control her powers unless it's in the last hour of the last book. with 4 lovers there is not nearly enough spice, and way too much angst. ok everyone has problems, ok everyone has past trauma, but why did it take 3 1/2 books for anyone and everyone to come to terms with their past. the story gets really repetitive in that they are all too damaged to do anything but rely on the girl who can basically only set herself on fire until the 3 minutes of fighting she has to set someone else on fire or die. why train her at all? just throw her into a fight and get something done. the girl also sings 80s songs a line or two at a time, but replaces the words with whatever is relevant to what she is currently doing, but the narrator clearly has no idea what the song is supposed to be or what it should sound like so they just come out like she has melted her brain and is chanting nonsense to herself. and let's talk about how her biggest enemy is not the enemy it's a sprinkler system...so you can basically take her out with a good spray bottle, like an unruly cat, but she is the most feared being ever...I'm terrified...no really I'm in awe of her magnificent power that she can't use without cooking herself and can be thwarted with a bucket of water. I did finish the book mostly because I liked the male characters, but it was hard to get through and I fell asleep several times trying to listen to it.
