Nineteen humorous sci-fi stories telling of the man who saved the world (kind of), and the man who didn’t, the laptop that discovered it is self-aware, the puzzling Christmas message from outer space, the unluckiest man on Earth, and the spur-of-the-moment decision that doomed mankind.

Over 15 stories!
Revisado: 12-27-21
Let me start off by saying that Duncan Galloway's narration is absolutely top notch! I mainly listen to Sci-Fi/Fantasy audiobooks and I would put him up there with Jeff Hays and even Andy Serkis! I honestly recommend giving this book a go just for his narration because there are so many short stories in here that you get to experience a whole range of characters.
The stories themself are entertaining even though some are pretty short. Some stores are more fantasy than sci-fi so that is why I gave it 4 stars over 5. It really is a great audiobook but dont expect every story to be sci-fi. Some might even lean more towards fiction. The benefit to short stories is that you wonder what else could happen in that universe and I hope that Mark Roman and Corben Duke continue these types of stories/books in the future.
In exchange for this honest review I was given this audiobook for free.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

The Legend of Zelda... kinda
Revisado: 04-14-21
This is a great story! If you like the Legend of Zelda then you will find a lot of likeness in this book. This is a great entry level book for the LitRPG genre as well. Suzy Jackson does an absolutely amazing job narrating this story and I cannot wait to hear more fantasy/scifi from her! Highly recommend giving this one a go!

Great narration, meh story
Revisado: 04-02-21
First off, the narration is really fantastic. Travis Baldree does a fantastic job and has a wide range where no 2 characters sound the same. His performance is what made me rate the book so highly. The book itself was OK. The first couple chapters introduce you to too many characters that do not really matter so it gets kind of hard to know who is important at first and who isn’t. At least 6 characters don’t matter at all for the rest of the book so it just seems odd to even include them. With how the book was structured, it seems like it would have been better to start the story at chapter three where the main character is at the beginning of the tower and then do flashbacks to the other 3 chapters later on once you have a good establishment of the world/main character. The book could also do a lot better at explaining the back story of why people are here and why they must complete the tower - it just seems to only go over it at a basic level and there is a lot of room for improvement here. Finally, this whole book is only on the first floor... and there are over 150 floors to go just to get the guy back to where he was! Does this mean 149 more books are coming? The feel of the book is that it ends too soon where it could easily be twice as long. Overall, the story was OK, not something I would recommend to others as there is so much better LitRPG out there. This book was given to me free in exchange for this review.

A great flaring adventure - bruh!
Revisado: 08-24-20
Sup bruh? You decided to check out this flaring review to see if this def is worth it? Well Sol dammit, I guess I have to tell you my flaring thoughts then!
Do you like Sci-Fi? Do you like sports? How about toilet humor? If you answered yes to all of those, then this book is for you. You will get a good chuckle out of it and Matthew Broadhead does a fantastic job narrating this flaring book that you will lose yourself in the moment. I personally am not a huge sports fan but the first 55 chapters rarely deal with sports so it was still enjoyable. The last part of the book is more sports heavy and I found myself drifting off and thinking about other things while it was happening. I do not follow sports so when they call positions or plays I have no idea what they are talking about. The book ends nicely and wraps everything up so if you are looking for a 1 book adventure then check this out!
The characters are alright with the exception of Wizz whom was my personal favorite. If he was not in this book I think I would have stopped listening to it awhile ago just because the main character is someone that gets on my nerves at times. The main character is the not-so-smart jock type and just seems to lack common sense at times. I downright hate the "Villain" in this book just because his dialog was really annoying to me. How many times can we say "Well"? Lets find out! I feel that if that part of his dialog was cut then he would have been a very solid character.
The overall story was pretty good with some interesting moments. The humor is what helps to keep the book alive and what kept me listening. How can you not laugh at a talking urinal? The romance between 2 main characters was also well done and I overall liked their banter with each other. This isnt a love story - so dont worry. It just adds depth to the characters and overall story.
Would I listen to this again? Probably not anytime soon. I may listen to it again 5 years from now if I am looking for a good laugh. Was it worth at least 1 listen? Flare Yeah Bruh! I don't feel like my time was wasted and overall it was enjoyable. I really enjoyed the special features part at the end with Matthew busting up laughing at his mistakes during his recording. I really wish more audiobooks did this!

Revisado: 07-15-20
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Per these terms I have 30 days to leave a review and I just couldnt finish this book. I could not connect with the characters and while the world seemed interesting, the whole setting/premise was just odd to me. I constantly found myself thinking about unrelated things and would then be brought back to the moment and have no idea what is going on. Sean Duregger does a good job with his narration but the overall story I was just not impressed with. I have been unable to finish this book within my deadline and this review is a reflection of what I have heard. If I ever get around to finishing the book I will update this review to reflect that.

This is my second LitRPG I have ever read/listened to and this really gets me excited for this genre! This book is a base building simulator where the character basically plans out his settlement... but its so captivating! You constantly want to hear more and Jeff Hays does an absolutely amazing job with every character where no 2 sound the same! The quality of this book is unreal and if you are looking for a fantastic LitRPG book - this is it! Very very highly recommended!

Revisado: 06-29-20
I was a huge fan of the first book but was then disappointed with the second one. The flow just was off and while it did have some interesting moments, when compared to the first book the second one just did not live up to it. This book however comes very close to beating the first one! The story, characters, narration, everything(!) were amazing. The ending has you wanting to know more and you are constantly along for an amazing ride! I cannot wait to see how this story continues.

My first LitRPG!
Revisado: 06-24-20
Holy crap wow. This book was amazing! I absolutely loved it! This was the first LitRPG book I have ever heard and I am honestly very excited for this genre! Lavelle Jackson does such an amazing job in this book that I was constantly hooked from the very beginning. The story, world, characters, EVERYTHING was absolutely enthralling! The dark and grimy scenes are amazing and gave the perfect shock moments that I wish more books I read would be willing to do. This is an absolutely must for any fan of games like Warcraft.
Alan Adelbergs narration of all the male characters is fantastic! At first I was not a big fan on the main characters Orc voice but when you start hearing Alans range of all his characters you start to really appreciate and love the voice. His pacing in the story is also perfect and keeps you gripped throughout the whole book! I honestly give him 5/5 stars!
Anneliese Rennies narration of the female characters is the only drawback in this book. Just compared to everything else it was what brought the book down. From the very beginning when you hear her voice the doctor it sounds like the doctor is talking through an intercom - but thats how it sound with EVERY character. While this works perfect for the world voice, like when the main character levels up, all other characters just felt distant. The range of her characters was no where near Alan's performance so a lot of the characters sounded the same. I really hope that the next book her quality goes up. I would rate her 3/5.
The only other downside to this book that I can think of is when they go over the stats for the character. Each time he levels up you have to hear all the stats in detail. This gets old pretty quick. I wish they would just go into the detail of the stat ONLY when it levels up. An example would be: Strength +1 = 35 - Attack power, carrying power, etc. Vitality 14, Agility, 12, Luck 5. I feel that this would work a lot better in the audiobook version as it really ate up a lot of time and took you away from the moment when it would happen.
As a final thought, the down things in this book are minor. The story is what shines! When book 2 comes out on audible it will be an instant buy! Lavelle has done an amazing job with the characters and world and I cannot wait to continue on this journey! Tusk and Blade!

Wesley Bruff does an amazing job!
Revisado: 06-09-20
This story is good but the way Wesley brings the characters to life is amazing! He seriously has done an amazing production job with this story that I am excited to see what else he does in the future. The added effects he puts into the story really bring you into the moment - weather it be hearing a voice directly in your mind, listening to a conversation in a cave, or hearing a fearsome gnarly character speak - all of it was really top notch! I honestly wish he did not do most of the book in his raspy voice just because of the quality of everything else - i feel like it at times just was too slow of a pace for the overall story.
The overall book was good if you like this time period. I compared this book to a couple of other books that are similar that I have read/listened to and that is why I rated it the way I did. It does a good job with the story but it is nothing that was truly fantastic - other than the narration.
A note about the audio sample of this book - I feel like it is a misrepresentation of what the whole book is going to be about. The sample made me think that the book would have a lot of background effects like growls or whatever - but that only accounted for maybe 2% of the book. Just be aware that it is very rare that you hear any background effects. With this in mind though, Wesley Bruff does do some very unique voice alterations that really add to the story and make it a great listen!

A gripping tale of when things go bad
Revisado: 06-02-20
From the description of this book I thought it was going to be more science-fiction when instead the book turned out more to be a survival/fiction type of story. Dont get me wrong, the story was great! I just kept waiting for something more syfi to happen because that is typically what I am more interested in.
The story is a modern scenario with modern references - it fits in perfect for 2020. 10-20 years from now, I am unsure how the references that are put in this book will hold up, but other than that the whole story is very solid. The action scenes are truly gripping and Gary Tiedemann does an absolutely fantastic job with his different characters and overall narration!
A couple things that keep this from being a 5 - At the beginning of the chapters they play this weird audio buzz noise, but then it goes away for like 20 or so chapters - then comes back again. Very weird decision that always took me out of the story and made me wonder why it was added. The other thing that threw me off was the pacing at the end of the book where it goes to the climatic end... to me it just kind of felt off from the rest of the book and was added to make the book more exciting. Dont get me wrong, it was a really well done scene - but it just felt kind of out of place.
Overall I recommend checking out this book if you are looking for an "End of the world" type story of when things go bad. I am curious to see where the story goes and plan to pick up the sequel to this book especially if Gary Tiedemann is narrating again!
