Would you listen to We Don't Need Roads again? Why?

Yes, I might very well go back and listen to this again because...it's Geeky stuff. I never realized how much of a geek I was!! And there is such an abundance of Geeky Stuff That I'm afraid I may have missed something.

Would you try another book from Pete Townshend and/or Pete Townshend?

No. I was disappointed to find that Towshend really is the self absorbed arrogant jerk that he has always appeared to be. His childish exploits and drug abuse seem to be a constant source of amusement to him. He chases after anything in a skirt, falls in "love" at the drop of a pair of panties, all at the expense of his own marriage. Then he whines about how "lonely" he feels!!

Would you be willing to try another one of Pete Townshend’s performances?

Not if he is talking about his favourite subject _ Pete Townshend!

What character would you cut from Who I Am?

Pete Townshend!!

Any additional comments?

I ended up abandoning this book. I just couldn't bear to listen to any more. The people who idolize these Rock and Roll heroes, are the self same Rock and Roll heroes!!!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I am about three quarters of the way through this book and I am sticking with it because I want to see how it ends. And..I have paid for it!! But the narrator is irritating the crap out of me!! He needs to go!

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Please see above!

What didn’t you like about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance?

It's all pretty much the same. All the characters sound the same. Even the German scientist has the same voice as all the others except for a cheesy German accent which slowly disappears over the course of the first few chapters and then continues to make surprise re-appearances randomly through the rest of the book but not every time the scientist speaks!!He sounds like one of those announcers who love the sound of their own voice. I DON'T love it.

Do you think Area 51 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

A moot point really. There already is one!

Any additional comments?

I like the concept of the story and under other circumstances would be interested in follow up books. However, I notice that the follow ups listed by Audible are also read by Jeffrey Kafer. So I will pass.

I have enjoyed the "In death " series. I am up to book six since I started trying to read them in sequence, plus a couple of others from later in the series. The characters are entertaining, Peabody is a great sidekick, Somerset is a pain in the #*%@. But they must put aphrodisiacs in the water in the year 2058. Please!! I like sex as much as anyone, but you cannot tell me that people really have as much gratuitous sex as Rourke and Dallas. They have a fight, it ends in sex. He goes away, when he comes back they immediately have sex. She goes away, when SHE comes back they have sex. She stubs her toe, they have sex. The cat barfs on the rug, they have sex. Give me a break! A bit more story, and a lot less sex would allow me to enjoy these books a lot more rather than risk my life trying to fast forward to "after the orgasm" while I'm driving, which is where I listen to my Audible books. Come on J.D. Put some of the sex in your Nora books instead, and save an innocent life!!

With Ron Howard directing this will be a great follow up to "Angels and Demons" and 'The Davinci Code". I can even suggest some cast members to go with Tom Hanks! For Catherine Soloman; Nicole Kidman, and for CIA Agent Sato an actor whose name I can't remember but who is currently featured in "NCIS Los Angeles"
The audio book however drags! 19 hours is just to damn long, especially when a lot of it is Author padding! The researched detail is all very well and interesting, up to a point, but it slows down the pacing of the story.
I also found some of Paul Michael's characterisations very annoying, especially the villain, who did not sound scary to me. Just extremely irritating.
This is, of course, just my opinion, but it is based in part on the experience of listening to the other two books, neither of which had the same effect on me. I just don't think Dan Brown needed to try so bloody hard! This story is just crammed with too much extraneous stuff, that does nothing for the plot, just slows it down. There won't be any room for the extraneous stuff in the Screen Play which is why I say "It will make a great Movie!!"

Badly written. Very badly read. Hunter Davies should have stuck with "Class of '66"
He has an irritating voice, mis-pronounces many words and is very condescending, both to the listener and to the Beatles. If this was written for Beatles fans, then any who have read it must be sorely disappointed. The production quality was also low. New sessions were obvious, due to a different quality of recording each time. As a narrator he makes a very average journalist. This is the first Audio Book I have regretted buying.
