Historia
Marc is all too aware that the end of the acclimatization year the System has provided to Earth is quickly drawing to a close and that others will be allowed onto the planet to start claiming areas shortly. Zeus has promised that his series of quests will get Marc, at least, to the maximum level reachable in that first year, but Marc is nervous that it isn't going to happen.

do people really whine that much?
Revisado: 02-09-25
First off, of the author would have cut all of Mark's internal monologue out then he could have cut the series down to maybe three books.
Second, Jeff should have been killed off in book one. He brings nothing to the group dynamic other than needless strife. I understand that he's there for comedy but the writers attempts to make us, the readers/listeners sympathize with him falls flat every time.
Next, you have the other supporting characters. Sweet mother of God I've never wanted more people to die than I have listening to them drone on about everything that doesn't help. They're supposedly gamers, but always make the same mistakes as noobs.
"I'm going to open that dungeon door"
-my inner monologue -
might want to check for traps
"OH NOOO ITS TRAPPED"
-me-
called it.
That's essentially what happens... EVERY. SINGLE.TIME.
Out of all of them, Rob is the only one I would come close to liking.
Then we have the main character...jeez where do I begin.
Do you like stories where the main character is the best at every thing? Don't like when the focus of a story has to actually put in the work to get better instead of gaining levels during every fight? Love it when the MC learns everything there is to learn but somehow always seems to be the best instead of being so spread out they die immediately? Do you think that people blush whenever anything personal is discussed? How about whenever someone is shown the obvious that they're in shock?
But most importantly, do you love a book where the characters dialogue is constantly whining? If so, then this is the series for you!!!
Now for the narrator, just..stop. That's it. His voice makes this series nearly intolerable. Think of an A.I. reading a story but was never programmed with the ability for inflection. That's how his voice is. Horrible accents are just the beginning.

Historia
Marc and his party have finished their zeppelin and taken it out to try to discover other Safe Zones. Their intent is to set up trade routes between all the different Safe Zones in order to give them a better chance to survive. The second Safe Zone they discover with the zeppelin is nearly as large as Any Port. It even has its own ring of outlier Safe Zones, or a partial ring at least. It appears that several of the smaller Safe Zones have been taken and converted into dungeons. With the safety of the larger Safe Zone at stake, they bring the zeppelin down to help the larger Safe Zone.

it passes the time
Revisado: 01-28-25
Maybe if the narrator stops giving random characters a bad southern accent even though the story takes place in the upper Midwest it would have a better performance score. Unfortunately, not even that could make up for the utter lack in understanding how the author has written one of the most annoying main characters ever. But, since I'm caught up on alll my favorite series, I have to deal with mediocre stories about a Barry Sue.

torture on my ears
Revisado: 01-23-24
Ever feel that sense of loss when a good story is over with? Ever wish that just one more chapter would magically appear? Well not with this book, the best part is when it was over. An eighteen year old overweight kid is going to magically get into peak physical shape in less than a month by doing every exercise wrong, ignoring the advice of people who had been doing their job for years. The best way to describe this book is to take the worst aspect of MAZE RUNNER mix in even worse story telling, blend and print. I wasted a credit, hopefully you won't.

kinda good kinda meh
Revisado: 06-15-22
Guess I can start with the good.
-the premice is great, I'm sure many have had the idea of what would I do if I found an alien starship. Most of us would want to improve life here on Earth.
aaaaand that's about it for the good.
Now for the meh (read bad)
- narrator...OMFG, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm an insomniac, I would have fallen asleep within 20 minutes. To say that a computer has more emotional range is a massive understatement. Zero accent and extreme minimum of Inflection. Someone should inform the narrator that deepening her voice half the time for the male characters throws off her flow. Just don't do it at all.
-Characters. There is no life in them, with the exception of Catie. The entire cast has absolutely no emotional range, like you're talking to a computer. Bland doesn't begin to describe them. (read above narrator) Now for the only character with an ounce of life....I'm not going to call her what she is, but it rhymes with Barry Blue. who ever told the author that making a 13 year old be better than everyone at everything when those others have been doing said jobs for decades needs to just not. Everyone looks for easier ways to accomplish tasks, and making her the ONLY person who would think "HMMM PERHAPS I COULD ASK THE SUPER SMART COMPUTER IF THERE WAS AN EASIER WAY TO DO THIS" breaks the immersion the reader has and the author is trying to develop.
-Last thing, no one has anything resembling a set back, emotional, or physical issues that would depend the story. Yes I know they fixed it in the same chapter and with ZERO problems.
THE ONLY REASON THIS GOT 2 STARS IS BECAUSE THE PREMICE IS COOL. Save your credits. I won't be wasting another on the next book.

The war with the Arduans - profoundly alien invaders who originally arrived in STL ships - is over. Most of those attackers are now probationary (and very productive) citizens of the Rim Federation. However, many among the Arduans' warrior caste have accepted neither defeat nor the personhood of any of the other intelligence races. Their leader, the ruthless admiral of the second Arduan exodus, Amunsit, is in firm control of the Zarzuela system.

I really wanted love it.
Revisado: 01-18-21
Completely lacks continuity with the previous 2 books. While its a fun story overall, the lack of such continuity between each book, takes away the flow of the story. Add in the authors need to insert irrelevant drama, as well as likable characters only to kill them off asap instead of the useless ones, the author drops the ball. Furthermore, background that should be expanded on are carelessly tossed aside in exchange for additional drama focused on cementing the authors personal social and political views.
The good parts of the story are the POV's from the engineer Nod, Lucy, and the Trouble Dog. Unfortunately, all 3 were treated as part of the scenery, or tools, instead of the sentient beings they were. Which in my opinion invalidated all the authors personal social and political opinions that were inserted.
