Historia
My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

Historia
One day, I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real. The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter-than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert. I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date. At 41, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me. When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it.

Loved it!
Revisado: 11-24-23
I found this book very relatable even through the fantastical experiences the main character has. I do get what other reviews have said about the main character being really negative to herself however I think it’s a truthful representation of her age and experiences. She spent 20 years of her life with a man who verbally shamed her at every turn. Of course her inner voice will mimic what she has known for so long. I can’t wait to see how her inner voice changes in reference to herself as she grows in confidence and gets this new life of hers really going.

Historia
Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color.

Top 5 for sure!
Revisado: 01-04-23
Very unique twist on the Angel/Devil dynamic. I am not a fan of romance and while there is a little here, it’s well within my tolerance levels. This book has actually moved into my top 5 of all time! It has been a while since I read something that I enjoyed as much as I enjoyed reading this book. Not much surprises me in terms of plot and I usually see all the twists coming long before thy happen. That was not the case with this book. I had several surprises along the way. I am so glad it was my first pick of the year. The author has built an vivid and unique world for my imagination to explore and I can not wait to continue learning about it!

When 49-year-old Belladonna Barrone’s mobbed-up husband does her the favor of dying in a car accident, she thinks she’s finally free of the crime family she unwittingly married into. Then the boss tells her that she has to complete her husband’s last job before that freedom is truly hers. No big deal, she figures. Until things go south in ways she never imagined. Suddenly she’s thrust into a whole new world that makes the mob look like kindergarten. Vampires and werewolves are real? How is that freaking possible?

Absolutely worth it!
Revisado: 10-31-21
This audiobook checks all my normal ‘skip’ boxes on the surface. I don’t normally do vampire stories. I don’t typically enjoy male narrators. (The voice in my head is female so female voices just feel more natural to me.) I also tend to shy away from stereotypical thin blonde “popular main characters. I was in a hurry to pick something to listen to before getting on the road and the title of this book just fit my mood so well so I didn’t even listen to the preview or read the intro. So I didn’t skip this one, I went for it.
Absolutely worth the gamble and makes me wonder about others I have passed on. I loved some of the details the author put into the main character’s personality that really made her relatable in unexpected ways. I enjoyed the pace and different levels of crazy within the story. It is so much more than just a vampire story. It did take me a min to get past the male voice but once the story was rolling I did enjoy the bits of personality the narrator brought to each character. I will be looking for more things from both this author and narrator!

Beautiful story. Well worth it!
Revisado: 12-25-19
Beautiful and unique story. It will certainly keep your attention all the way through the series. At times I found myself wanting to shake the characters and wake them up to what was so obvious from an outside perspective. At the same time knowing that it’s so much harder to trust and have faith when you are the one in the mess. This author did a wonderful job of bringing that internal struggle we all face to life through this story and the very relatable characters. She also did an amazing job of reminding us all that no matter how much of a mess each and every one of us is, our creator loves us and only wants good things for us. We may not always understand and we will certainly struggle but he is always there beside us.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Just... not enough.
Revisado: 04-15-19
I felt like the story was just getting started and then it was over. We got the obligatory background bits of what what was going on, had a short lived mystery with no real action that didn’t last long, then that was it.
I enjoyed the idea behind it all but I am left feeling a bit let down. It feels more like a teaser for a new series but I didn’t seen any evidence of that after a quick search. Perhaps it was an idea the author decided not to pursue fully. I think the story could be great if given a real chance.

Good story but some annoying details
Revisado: 03-17-19
I enjoyed the overall story and I will be continuing on with it after this book. In general I tend to prefer shifter supernatural stories over others so this fit right in for me. I do enjoy some romance as long as it’s not overdone and I felt that this book was not too over the top. It had a good balance of the romance mixed with plenty of other things going on. If you don’t enjoy romances to some degree though you won’t like a lot of parts in this. The romance ‘scenes’ are fairly frequent but short so I suppose they could be skipped over.
There were some personality traits that I personally just could not relate to in the main character but I know people that exhibit those behaviors so I get it. For me the most annoying part was the descriptions of the 6 yr old. As a mom with 2 of my children currently 5 & 7 I have a fairly good grasp of this age range. Any 6 yr old I have ever met is vastly more mature, highly perceptive to the things going on around them, and definitely not so easily distracted. Once I started thinking of the child as a 4yr old instead of a 6 yr old I felt things fit together better. The little annoyances didn’t make me dislike the story in any way. I just threw the age thing in case it helps someone else to age the child down in their mind like I did.
I saw another review comment that the voice sounded too old but I thought it sounded perfect for the characters age. Nicole Poole does a great job bringing life to the characters and I think she made the main character more relatable to me.
I have the romance package so this one didn’t cost me a credit but it would have been worth it if it did. Give it a try!

Revisado: 03-01-19
This was my first Audible Original. I really enjoyed this book. At times I forgot that the main character was only a child because the writing was not overly child like. I knew half way into the book that I was going to wish for more when it ended and I most certainly did! I have seen some reviews that didn't like all the 'flashbacks' but I really think it added substance to the story and the character.

It’s the Journey
Revisado: 12-04-18
First let me say this is an amazing series and if your contemplating the series as a whole, go for it!! That being said, series installments where the entire story is the journey from point A to point B are usually my least favorite. They always end up feeling more like a preview for the next book instead of a true stand alone themselves. This book is one of those for me. I don’t necessarily think a full journey book was needed to lead into the next part of the story and I am left feeling a bit underwhelmed. There is plenty of action and new discoveries through the book but they only give bits of information and you never get the full story on any of them. This book left me with too many questions and zero answers. I am anxiously anticipating the next book!
