Historia
Richard Dolan's UFOs and the National Security State (Volume 1) has become a classic work of UFO history, a must for all students of this often confusing subject - or simply for those who want a deeper understanding of a key part of 20th-century history. This is the first volume of a two-part detailed chronological narrative of the national security dimensions of the UFO phenomenon from 1941 to the present.

Poor Narration
- De Judy en 04-16-21
Excellent content, but many mispronunciations
Revisado: 11-15-24
This is one of the canonical histories of UFOlogy. It is a must read for anyone interested in the topic. Dolan is one of a kind in his deep and broad historical analysis of the evidence and the US government’s shifting positions and coverup of the phenomenon.
Unfortunately, the reading leaves something to be desired. The performer obviously is unfamiliar with the field and mispronounces many words and names. “Vallée” is pronounced like “valley” and NICAP is spelled out letter by letter each time, for example. This important text deserves a better audio recording.

Needs a professional narrator
Revisado: 03-29-24
Fascinating content for the open minded. I feel bad criticizing this book, because I’m grateful to the author for all the work she has done, but I must say that her sing song reading style was really distracting.

Historia
The man on the moon was dead. They called him Charlie. He had big eyes, abundant body hair, and fairly long nostrils. His skeletal body was found clad in a bright red spacesuit, hidden in a rocky grave. They didn’t know who he was, how he got there, or what had killed him. All they knew was that his corpse was 50 thousand years old - and that meant this man had somehow lived long before he ever could have existed.

Great concept, poor performance
Revisado: 06-01-23
I really liked the story, unraveling a mystery of our solar system’s prehistory. I can’t think of a book quite like it. It’s like a space history detective mystery.
My issue is with the reading. The narrator seems much better suited to reading a business book. I he has a square flat, matter of fact and plodding style. It would work perfectly well for a business book, but it just doesn’t cut it for fiction. The characters seem lost in an endless monotony. Again, this would be fine for a business book - I’m reminded of the narrator of Conscious Capitalism, for example.

Interesting story but disjointed and juvenile
Revisado: 05-26-23
The story was kind of interesting and keeps you going, but I found the jocular tone a bit boring. There isn’t much world building or logic involved. New elements are introduced flippantly throughout the book that feel like the author just made them up in an instant and “went with it”. I didn’t love the language either. It seems geared for teenage boys.

Not really sci-fi
Revisado: 03-11-23
This is a competent book about a pretty mundane topic. A bunch of ship hands set up a trading operation as their ship goes from port to port. This narrative could be swapped to present day Earth without anything more than a change of names. Not sure what the point of this book is. The writing is fine, but it’s more of a small bore drama. I listened to the because I expected something to happen. Nothing really did.

Too much right wing politics
Revisado: 01-29-23
Could have been a great sci-fi series, but the author continually foists standard right wing talking points lifted from modern day conservative media on the reader. I feel like I’m constantly being lectured to by the cranky uncle at Thanksgiving who is watching way too much Fox. It would be just as bad if it were a liberal viewpoint. But in this case, you’ll have to listen to why Muslims are still evil, why Castro and socialism is bad, why government and taxes are bad, etc. The problem is that it’s boring, since we’re all exposed to this nonsense constantly.
Being preached at by someone with an agenda that has obviously been constructed by the last two decades of American political media really runs the feeling of immersion in what would otherwise be a pretty good story.

Historia
In his first book for a general audience, Mandelbrot, with co-author Richard L. Hudson, shows how the dominant way of thinking about the behavior of markets-a set of mathematical assumptions a century old and still learned by every MBA and financier in the world-simply does not work. As he did for the physical world in his classic The Fractal Geometry of Nature, Mandelbrot here uses fractal geometry to propose a new, more accurate way of describing market behavior.

A classic
Revisado: 01-25-23
An essential viewpoint on financial markets. Mandelbrot marshals a convincing argument against the efficient markets hypothesis and points the way toward a new theory.
