Historia
Obey the will of the Giver. Never leave the island. Don’t ask questions. Since the death of her Father, Lera hasn’t obeyed a single one, and nothing bad has happened…so far. Lera tries to convince her sister, Niena, it will be fine. After all, the Giver isn’t real, right?

Great narration, amazing story
Revisado: 02-28-25
I absorbed this book so quickly. Devoured it.
Firstly, I’m really picky about narrators and Heather Daniel’s narration is perfection. She uses so much emotion when needed, so much determination and power. I felt like I was actually in the story with the way her emotions changed as the character’s did.
Secondly, K Michelle Moseley is such a wonderful storyteller. She created this beautiful, haunting world that has me itching for the second book just so I can know more. Whether she was writing about friendship, death, or the complexities of family, she handled each one with such care. And the undertones of religion and religious trauma was so genuine. Between the way the author wrote this and the way the narrator read it, I am feeling emotional and reflective and maybe even a little bit raw. This was such a beautiful story and I cannot wait to get my hands on the second one. (WHEN IS THAT CAUSE I NEEEEED IT)

Historia
Denise Fallon is tired. Not a unique feeling for a 24-year-old surviving late-stage capitalism. Only thing is, she’s been 24 for 67 years. At 91, she should be playing bingo in a nursing home in Florida, taking long naps, and bitching about her children not calling. Instead, she’s still navigating how to function with her dysfunctional friends, managing decades of shared grief, and then there’s the love she’s avoided for over half a century. Honestly, it’s a bit much.

eery and lovely

This story was unlike any other I've come across. I love how the author bounced from present to past and back to present. I love how the narrator was able to immerse me in the story completely, invoking emotions of panic and sorrow and joy. I laughed out loud at several parts, as well as had tears in my eyes at other parts. I gasped, I cried, I loved it. I feel like the narration was excellent--I didn't feel like there were extra sounds (I am kind of picky with narrators because I have auditory sensory issues) and I loved the velvet-like smoothness of her voice. She switched between characters SO well, it was never hard to keep up with which character was talking or narrating. overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book--the narration, the writing, the aura of it all. It was haunting and quite lovely.
