Glad it was a box set

I’m not sure I would’ve purchased books 2-6 if they weren’t a set. The author didn’t develop the main character Wyatt to his full potential. As a former Navy Seal he lacked serious military mindset, doctrine and tactics. He was way too trusting and not nearly as strong as I know SOF to be. The other lead was Megan. Her constant questioning of her commitment to the group was annoying. The lack of tactics when it came to the engagements during action scenes was disappointing to say the least. Overall the homesteading was good and this book set could’ve been really great.

Slow and lacking

I understand this is the first book in the series however, it’s slow. The internal conflict of the characters is over emphasized in comparison to the action. I’m a native NM and live in ABQ so I thought it was cool to have an apocalyptic book based here. It was good but not what I was expecting after reading over 50 other books in this genre. I think A. Americans’ Going Home series, Franklin Hortons’ Locker Nine series, William Forstchens’ One second after series have set the bar high. I’m going to read book 2 hoping it gets better. And what’s with almost every author writing “clips” instead of “magazine” when discussing weapon reloads??? Come on man!
