Historia
Bruce Silver is the author of the Riftbreaker novels, one of the most popular, beloved fantasy book series of all time. He's got everything he's ever dreamed of having: freedom to tell the stories he wants to tell, legions of enthusiastic fans who wait eagerly to see what he'll write next, and a really nice car. But despite all that, Bruce finds himself dissatisfied, battling an ennui he can't quite put his finger on. So he decides to do what anyone would do in his situation: burn it all down by unexpectedly killing off Carpathian Einzgear, Riftbreaker's cherished hero.

Greg and Julian need to make a choice—die in the tornado that’s sucked them up in their van, or agree to hunt monsters in a world full of magic and levels and, oh yeah…monsters. The two frat bros may be master ghost hunters to their podcast listeners, but they never expected their antics to be taken seriously by a goddess in another dimension. And since when are ghosts the same as monsters? Awkward. But when the other option is certain death, it seems like it’s worth giving it the old college try.

Passable, I’m kinda interested in the next of the series.
Revisado: 06-26-24
Buddy cop kinda book.
The writer seemed to enjoy himself and it shows, sometimes surprising me.
You follow a single character except for a page or two. No true plot and there are 3 distinct action/thriller parts.
Fun moments and some comedy parts.
Cool moments and fun worldbuilding.
Wasn’t the biggest fan of the narrator but he does a decent job.
I didn’t like that the main character had an intentional trait of rambling thoughts (that others commented on). I feel like 25-30% of the book is him spiraling in his head one way or another.
From a litRPG perspective it is very loose. Not really hard rules or stats making a difference. Take out about a page of info and you wouldn’t even know.
Comedy is soso.

Historia
With Randidly Ghosthound's help, humanity has withstood the first impact of the System. Old institutions are re-erected as the Zones settle into new normalcy, characterized by the enthusiastic application of the scientific method to System principles and the stubborn return of pop culture and consumerism. Yet these familiar edifices of stability conceal an altogether new breed of monster. One that bears the face of a human but the beating heart of a horror. Randidly continues to investigate the mysterious Father Foster, the central figure of the rapidly expanding Unity Church.

Cool stuff but there are a number of times I wished to skip over.
Revisado: 04-20-24
The author has cool ideas but his pacing and the time he takes going from one facet of the story to the next is exhausting.
The books are one giant story instead of broken up segments, and any ARC distinction is really just broad events that don’t seem to matter until the 5th time we drift back to them, instead of going to something we were starting to be interested in.

Jonah wakes to find himself in-game, level one, with no memory of how he arrived and no way to eject. Historia
Adam Binder has the Sight. It’s a power that runs in his bloodline: the ability to see beyond this world and into another, a realm of magic populated by elves, gnomes, and spirits of every kind. Years after his brother Bobby had him committed to a psych ward, Adam is ready to come to grips with who he is, to live his life on his terms, to find love, and maybe even use his magic to do some good. Hoping to track down his missing father, Adam follows a trail of cursed artifacts to Denver, only to discover that an ancient and horrifying spirit has taken possession of Bobby’s wife.

It was just good.
Revisado: 12-02-23
Acts like a standalone. Fleshes out characters a bit, good story building with less on how the magic works and more of the wonder and sense of it.
A protagonist that I thought was written incredibly well and could empathize with.
A great job overall.

At the same time, a powerful, menacing guild is running roughshod over the western continents, razing every city in their wake and winning Frank’s obnoxiously loud approval from afar. But Ned knows that it’s only a matter of time before their forces sail east to the delta and attempt to burn down everything he’s built.

It’s an alright book, too heavily geared to male audience for me to continue the series.
Revisado: 05-10-23
It’s a pretty good setting and there is some good plot building. The base building is well done and intriguing/ enjoyable. Has some relationship building but that’s hard to do when only two characters are intelligent enough to have a real conversation.
It’s not the best I’ve read, it’s not the worst. But it does a disservice to the female audience.
SPOILERS:
The ratio of “named” male/female NPCs/characters is like 14/3.
One is a grumpy old hag.
One is the hot dumb love interest.
One is a player that we don’t see more than 6 pages from.
The female love interest doesn’t seem to have any reason to be there except for resource gathering and for wanting to be the MC’s mate. She’s an unintelligent NPC that looks hot, wants to sleep with him, and needs saving.
When the smarter male NPCs get bored they go find a female and knock them up.
Partially understandable from a civ builder, but you don’t hear anything about females doing the same. Plus, the idea of a smart male going to find a dumb female is hard to continually look over.
It’s hard to get around when there is a lack of smart female characters.
During a process of “evolving” base NPCs to “named” (and now intelligent), the MC programs a female to love one of his followers as a reward to the follower.
It’s just…. Come on.
