The virtual voice is terrible
Revisado: 12-23-24
I’ve listened to books narrated by virtual voice before, but this one was terrible. The story was very unbelievable and made worse by the narration.

Intriguing story, couldn’t stop listening
Revisado: 10-23-24
As a South Carolinian, I found this book very interesting. I did not know about Eliza. This filled in so many gaps in the history I was taught. Intriguing book, couldn’t put it down.

Revisado: 06-10-24
I have been listening to this series for the past couple of years. I was disappointed when it ended, or appeared to end. I was thrilled when this book came out. It’s as great as the others, and leaves so much for future books. I love this series and will be starting back with book one to listen to all of them again. Highly recommend this book, and the series!

Enjoyed the story but …
Revisado: 01-08-24
I have enjoyed the series. However, there are two issues that have stood out in every book. I’m usually very tolerant of writing quirks, but I’ve grown increasingly irritated with these two issues.
The author uses the word “yet” too often. It appears the book was edited using Grammarly as that program always suggests replacing “but” with other words, especially “yet.” There are better ways to avoid using “but,” such as rewriting the sentence.
The other issue is constantly referring to the passage of time. “A few minutes,” “five minutes,” and other timing phrases are used frequently. The issue is that it doesn’t take that long for the action to take place in most instances. For example, walking from one room to another or walking up the stairs takes less than a minute. It really isn’t necessary to constantly refer to the time from one scene to the next. It’s very distracting.
Tightening up the writing and removing unnecessary items such as these would make for a better book. It’s something that writers must learn to do if they want to become “bestselling authors.” I know, because I work for one.

Pick one name and stay with it
Revisado: 09-16-23
The story was so-so but not bad. However, the author needed to choose either Meredith or Mary for the main character. Switching between the two names for the same person, sometimes even using both in the same sentence, was irritating. Last DS book I’ll listen to.

Hard to finish
Revisado: 04-17-23
This book was recommended by a good friend so I bought it. It was interesting to learn how the code breakers worked. However, the book has so many details that I found it hard to listen to. I kept hoping that there would be a real storyline but there wasn’t. I wish I had not spent a credit on this book.
