Historia
After experiencing a terrible loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with a man with whom she has a tragic connection, she follows him, sparking an unhealthy obsession with Gabriel Wright. How is he doing so well while her life is in shambles? But when Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly unaware of who she is, she knows it crosses all ethical and moral bounds to treat him. Yet, Meredith can’t bring herself to turn him away and becomes further entangled.

Just ugh
Revisado: 02-24-25
I hate these kind of books. It’s like everyone wants to write Gone Girl again. Verity was the same way. No character to like No one with any kind of moral code. Stupid stupid people. I could go on but I won’t. I’m sure many people find this genre appealing but it’s not for me. I try to avoid them but occasionally get sucked in unwittingly. I’ll be glad when this type of book is no longer popular. And yes , I also got sucked in by ‘You’ — another awful but popular book mentioned in this one.

Luther Wade grew up in Cold River, a warehouse for the criminally insane. Two decades ago the hospital closed it doors forever, but Luther never left. He wanders the catacombs beneath the city, channeling the violent dreams of Eduard Kross, Europe's most prolific serial killer of the 20th century. A two-year-old girl is found wandering the streets of Philadelphia in the middle of the night by detectives Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano. She does not speak, but she may hold the key to solving a string of murders committed in and around Priory Park.

Narrator change
Revisado: 11-27-24
What a disappointment to have a narrator change after 6 books into a series. Bad move for sure.
This book was good. I do have trouble keeping all the characters and plot twists straight when I listen and can’t go back and look in the book to reorient

Nothing new here
Revisado: 10-31-24
Interesting mix of vampire, shifter and witch shenanigans. The main couple Elijah and Rainey were likable which is a must for me.
Here is the main negative for me. The male narrator switched his volume just within a sentence so much it was incredibly annoying
He was either shouting or you couldn’t hear him. Very bad technique for a narrator

Sokoloff misses the mark—badly
Revisado: 09-16-24
I would have given no stars to this 5th book of a previously enjoyable series if I could have.
Sokoloff should have listened to the advice and left vitriolic liberal politics out of a work of fiction. If I want that,I’ll watch the news. It’s especially sad given that trafficking and rape should be addressed and that point is indisputable. Spewing political hatred does not serve a purpose here. Shame on you Ms. Sokoloff. Just shut up and write—or maybe go into nonfiction political ranting if you prefer
We read fiction for enjoyment and escapism, not to be preached at by another liberal.

Reader be aware!
Revisado: 03-26-24
This book is good. I liked the story a lot. I would warn that it is one of the most graphically violent books I have listened too. The violence is mostly in the past but the descriptions are pretty gruesome. I liken it to current comedy which uses an immense amount of crudity and profanity to be funny. You can be funny without all that This book would still have been good —maybe better without the detailed descriptions It is snuff porn but real in the book

Poor kid
Revisado: 12-27-23
This was definitely not a favorite of mine. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters in the book and the poor kid really got a bad deal when it came to family. Even the sympathetic character was weak and weird. Overall it was just depressing

Historia
Broke. That's what I was after my husband ran off with another woman. Not just my heart, either. My bank account took the hit, too. Thanks to the debt he left behind, I struggled to get by while I pieced my life back together. Until I'm made an offer I can't refuse. Five million dollars, and all I have to give is five years of my life as a blood donor - to a vampire. It was supposed to be a business transaction. Simple. Easy. He gets my blood; I get his money. I should have known better.

Narrator ruins it
Revisado: 11-02-23
Books are just ok to begin with but the female narrator is awful. She has this weird repetitive cadence of narration that is totally distracting. She is ok with conversational parts but the general narrative parts are one of the worst I’ve listened to and I have been on audible for years and years. Authors beware—bad narration can ruin your book—especially when it’s just so so to begin with.

College. A time of transition from youth to young adulthood. New lessons, new responsibilities, new distractions. A period of life treasured by most. Unless you happen to attend an institute of higher learning where the bullies are werewolves, the teachers are sadists, and the pretty girls are all deadly. A school like that demands a special kind of student, someone with the skills and power to survive. Someone like Declan O'Carroll.

Great series
Revisado: 10-01-23
I read all the time—really. I have a book going all day long as I go about my daily activities. I listen to my book in the car. I fall asleep at night listening to my book. I started this series a couple of weeks ago and now I’m on book 8. It is rare I listen to more than two or three books at a time in a series. I don’t like to binge listen. Lol. However this series is different. It has somehow captivated me. I just bought 3 more in the series. It is great for those who like fantasy. Vampires, werewolves, and witches oh my! (Not to mention demons, angels, fae and test tube creations and I’m sure some I forgot!)
