It’s fair to say that I’ve never read a book like this one. One that attempts to be a sociopolitical biology of the humanities that analyzes the psychology and atheistic ecological philosophy of religion, and technological and economical progress of sapiens. Or, as the book calls it, “a brief history of humankind”. riddled with errors and misrepresented data piece of stanchion his claims, it’s book feels like it wants to be a jack of all trades off yeah it is a master of none, including history.

This book is unbelievable in its scope and breathtaking in its analysis. It’s not a “churchy” or religious book even though written from the perspective of a religious person. I deeply appreciate the fair and honest ways in which the author treats all sides on the issue of the modern self and our sexuality. Very well done.

I have always avoided John Maxwell books because I assumed that since he’s so commercial, seemingly, that he was just another self-help guru. In recent months, I’ve taken to giving his books a try, and I absolutely love John Maxwell. His teaching style is so relatable and I feel like I grow as a human as a result. I highly recommend this book!!!

I enjoyed much of the book and was very impressed with the scope of how he addressed the issue. The arguments were compelling even if not always persuading me from my own differing opinions at various points.

At times I felt like he tried to accomplish way too much in one book and in many ways I felt like he let his thesis dictate the data, but it was still a compelling message overall.

This book is storytelling at its finest - written in a style that’s relatable and engaging. The author doesn’t waste words on arbitrary or irrelevant information. The story builds from start to finish and concludes in a satisfying tip of the cap to the start. The author has a way of communicating meaningful morals throughout the book at various levels, and is full of honest, introspective moments that every reader can benefit from. I highly recommend.

This is a fantastic read, and NT Wright delivers all that could be expected of this book. My only complaint is that the narrator's delivery is sometimes distracting, not for the any particular reason (Wright's other audio books from British narrators are not distracting to me) but even my wife concurred that she found the narrator difficult to listen to. I still give the book a 5 star, it's well worth the read (or listen).

First of all, GREAT narration.

NT Wright does not disappoint in this book, a very helpful and informative read that poignantly summarizes his positions on a variety of issues that impact modern Christianity on a daily basis. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

"Historical" data more opinion than fact

Would you try another book from Reza Aslan and/or Reza Aslan?

Mr. Aslan is easy to listen to, and I like his auditory style. However, I would hesitate to try another book by Mr. Aslan due to the conclusions I came to while fact-checking this book. Namely, that he presented his opinions and misguided critiques of the historical Jesus as historical facts.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Zealot?

Honestly, there's too much to cut out because many of his premises are based on old, re-hashed arguments about the historical Jesus, and Mr. Aslan presents one side of the arguments as historical facts when in reality, he has too much of his own opinions mixed in. He approaches one side of an argument that sounds really compelling and proceeds to proclaim this one side as absolute truth, without any attempt to consider the historical facts and variables around the issues. To be quite frank, this book is nothing more than a modern-day flat-earther.
