This story focuses on a family from Norway who came to America to realize a dream of owning land and settled in Minnesota. I have loved all of Lauraine Snelling’s books, especially the series set near the Red River of North Dakota. That series, as this one, is centered around a Norwegian settlement. I love their focus on hard work, family, and faith!

One of my favorite all-time series. Jan Karon has a remarkable gift of capturing life in small town USA along with presenting the richness of love and kindness poured out to others, through trials and joys. In addition she shows the faith, doubts, and ups and downs of living one’s faith out.

This book was a great conclusion to the Heirs of Montana series. Tracie Peterson never disappoints and this book focuses on a family who settles in Montana and works to build their ranch and establish their family. The dangers and joys of establishing this untamed territory gives the reader a glimpse of life during this period of history. This is a great read for anyone who enjoys Christian historical fiction.

Laurianne Snelling is at the top of historical fiction. I enjoyed and appreciated this faith-based writing. The Red River of the North has long been one of my favorite series, and I was thrilled to listen to it audibly. She paints such a clear picture of what immigrant settlers life must have been like on the prairie, creating a curiosity and desire to visit the area someday!

What made the experience of listening to The Proposal the most enjoyable?

The narrator's English accent really helped the story come to life. I enjoyed getting a glimpse of what country life for the priviledged was like during this period of England's history.

What other book might you compare The Proposal to and why?

Similar in some ways to Colleen Coble's Lonestar series where characters in those stories marry out of need, rather than love. Both author's do a good job of demonstrating the importance of friendship, respect, and commitment in a marriage, rather than depending solely on love.

What does Virginia Leishman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The accent, most definitely!
