Historia
In the year 1912, 19-year-old Christy Huddleston leaves home to teach school in the Smoky Mountains – and comes to know and love the resilient people of the region, with their fierce pride, their dark superstitions, their terrible poverty, and their yearning for beauty and truth. But her faith will be severely challenged by trial and tragedy, by the needs and unique strengths of two remarkable young men, and by a heart torn between true love and unwavering devotion.

"Christy" has been one of my favourite books for 50 years. Kellie does it justice.

"POOR" MARTHA
Revisado: 08-03-21
I'm not sure if Mr. Byron intended his book to be comical, but it was.

Historia
From Pasadena to Cambridge to New York, Washington, D.C., India, Ceylon, Paris, Marseilles, Santa Barbara, and Maine, Bob Spitz re-creates an extraordinary life. He takes us beyond the image of Julia as the tall, eccentric woman with a funny voice who taught America how to cook, to establish her as a genuine rebel and beloved icon, a woman who redefined herself in middle age, helped to change the role of women in America, set the standard for how to create a public personality in the modern media world.

"Dearie" is a feast to be savored and as satisfying as freshly baked bread slathered with sweet creamery butter!

Historia
For many, the name Jimi Hendrix conjures up a larger-than-life image of the man who set fire to guitars, women's hearts, and the status quo. In this groundbreaking account, music journalist Charles R. Cross takes a far deeper look. Beyond Hendrix's legendary onstage and offstage magnetism, and his excessive lifestyle, was a man who struggled to accept his role as an idol and privately craved the kind of normal family life he never had.

What An Experience!
Revisado: 04-12-21
No matter what you think of Jimi Hendrix--no matter how much you think you know about him, his life and his art--if you have any interest at all in the legend, listen to this book. It's a rollercoaster ride and you're in the front seat with "Buster," hanging on for dear life, screaming one minute, giggling hysterically the next and dizzy as hell when it's over. Extremely well-written by Mr. Cross and Mr. James's voice was oh so right for this audiobook. Enjoy the Experience!
Edit: I'm having a hard time rating the story. I originally gave it 5 stars but thought better of it. The story is one of hardship, loss and racial discrimination but it's also one of love, perseverance and success. In light of all that and more, I think 3 stars is fair, if not ideal.
