Historia
Friday, 12th February, 1993. Two outwardly unremarkable 10-year-old boys began the day by playing truant and ended it running an errand for the local video shop. In between they abducted and killed a two-year-old boy, James Bulger. In search of an explanation, award-winning journalist David James Smith looks behind the misinformation, misunderstanding and sensational reporting to an exact account of the events of that day. A sensitive and definitive account, The Sleep of Reason achieves a unique understanding of the James Bulger case.

Absolutely Chilling
Revisado: 03-31-23
This is a thoroughly researched, comprehensive look at a chilling, and disturbing instance of children killing other children. This recount of the events that occurred on the fateful day that James Bulger was killed, conjures up disturbing images, so reader beware.

Historia
In medical school, Paul Farmer found his life’s calling: to cure infectious diseases and to bring the lifesaving tools of modern medicine to those who need them most. Tracy Kidder’s magnificent account shows how one person can make a difference in solving global health problems through a clear-eyed understanding of the interaction of politics, wealth, social systems, and disease. Profound, Mountains Beyond Mountains takes us from Harvard to Haiti, Peru, Cuba, and Russia as Farmer changes people’s minds through his dedication to the philosophy that “the only real nation is humanity.”

A Stellar Memoir
Revisado: 11-23-22
This is my second “read” of this excellent memoir. I had to revisit this book after the sad loss of Paul Farmer in 2022. There are no words to describe the selflessness and benevolence of this great man. Tracy Kidder captures the spirit of Farmer beautifully. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It reveals the plight of the poorest echelons of humanity, who appear to be discarded and forgotten about. Farmers work in Haiti is singular and unparalleled. He was a compassionate doctor and the world needs more doctors like him.
