Historia
Reviled by the United States government as a troublemaker and a coward, revered by his people as a great warrior chief, Sitting Bull has long been one of the most fascinating and misunderstood figures in American history. Distinguished historian Robert M. Utley has forged a compelling portrait of Sitting Bull, presenting the Lakota perspective for the first time and rendering the most unbiased, historically accurate, and vivid portrait of the man to date.

Insightful and Well Performed
Revisado: 03-31-25
Sitting Bull’s weaknesses and strengths are equally addressed. I came away with a deepened appreciation for the struggles of the Indian peoples. Nicely narrated.

G.A. Henty novels are highly researched as well as drawn from his first-hand experiences of people, places, and events. No portion of English history is more crowded with great events than the 100 Years’ War from 1337-1453 under King Edward III and his son, the “Black Prince.” The Battles of Cressy and Poitiers; the destruction of the Spanish fleet; the plague of the Black Death; and the Jacquerie rising are vividly related in this historically accurate adventure novel.

Historia
Henry V reigned over England for only nine years and four months and died at the age of just thirty-five, but he looms over the landscape of the late Middle Ages and beyond. The victor of Agincourt, he is remembered as the acme of kingship, a model to be closely imitated by his successors. William Shakespeare deployed Henry V as a study in youthful folly redirected to sober statesmanship. For one modern medievalist, Henry was, quite simply, “the greatest man who ever ruled England.”

Expectations of a regent family.
Revisado: 11-01-24
Dan Jones presents the story of Henry V with succinct reality. He brings to light negative consequences of Henry’s ambitions as well as his victories. More than anything, I came away with more appreciation of the expectations that comes with living in a regent family. Being 16 and shot in the face by a longbow, Henry survived to become a battle King, who thought of those who aided his rule from his death bed.

Resonates with human experience
Revisado: 08-18-24
Once again, Dickens presents characters in a fictional story whose experiences seem to depict real life
circumstances even for the 21st century. Antagonists project what the detest and fear in themselves onto noble characters. The reader will discover beauty in the briars of injustice. Female characters demonstrate strength. The characters demonstrate the value of making decisions by individual instinct, which is sometimes balanced by the value of soliciting sound guidance from others.

The Chuzzlewits are a family divided by money and selfishness; even young Martin, the eponymous hero, is arrogant and self-centred. He offends his grandfather by falling in love with the latter’s ward, Mary, and sets out to make his own fortune in life, travelling as far as America - which produces from Dickens a savage satire on a new world tainted with the vices of the old. Martin’s nature slowly changes through his bitter experience of life and his enduring love for Mary.

Rich in Character Development
Revisado: 07-30-24
This work of Dickins is the most spectacular in terms of character development and surprising plot twists. Dickins has a way of introducing characters with a hit of predictability that plays out in their behaviors. Still, he manages to surprise the reader as the characters either mature and grow or deteriorate into moral decline. Though the story takes place in the 19th century, readers will relate to the human dynamics.

A terrifying vision of scientific progress without moral limits, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein leads the listener on an unsettling journey from the sublime beauty of the Swiss alps to the desolate waste of the arctic circle. Obsessed with the idea of creating life itself, Victor Frankenstein plunders graveyards for the material with which to fashion a new being, shocking his creation to life with electricity. But this botched creature, rejected by its creator and denied human companionship, sets out to destroy Frankenstein and all that he holds dear.

Depth in the Human Condition
Revisado: 07-16-24
Shelley reveals in this story the results of human drive for greatness. What happens when we reach our goals? The readers will question their own motives. Further, the depth of love and beauty in even the most outcast of creatures, as genuine they may br, can become distorted by mans’s drive to extend our potential.

Historia
As a young man, Vince Ellison began his career in the belly of the beast—as a prison guard working in the worst cellblock imaginable. And it was to his dismay and sadness that he has seen that same evil later in life. This time, not in the faces of incarcerated criminals, but rather in the eyes of the leaders of the Democratic party. In this persuasive work, Vince marshals his own experience and couples it with a learned and original analysis to conclude that the leaders of America's "progressive" party aren't just wrong on their policy stances—they are deliberately destructive.

Historia
The Pickwick Papers, Dickens's first novel, is a delightful romp through the pre-Reform Bill England of 1827. Samuel Pickwick and the rest of the Pickwickians are some of the most memorable of all Dickens's creations, and it is a joy to hear of their adventures in search of "interesting scenes and characters", and the repeated efforts of the quick-witted Sam Weller to rescue them all from disaster.

Family and Friends

Character development in this work of Dickins incites curiosity and surprise. Fidelity in human attachments is upheld and honored. Dickens explores family dynamics in a manner that introduces a variety of implications. Authenticity and noble character won’t always be rewarded with bliss, but earn the respect of fellow humans in this early journey.

Human Dynamics and Big Picture to Details
Revisado: 06-09-24
The characters reveal the realities of projection in relationships. Light shines through on awareness and the consciousness of these figures. Some fall as a result while others rise to their potential. Note also that when Dickens describes the big picture scenes of sunrises, sunsets, and transition of the seasons, he is offering a hint of what’s to come in the details of his narrative.

Stay with it
Revisado: 03-23-24
It’s quickly obvious from the outset that is is different from other Dickens stories. Character development seemed pedestrian at first. I’m glad I stayed with the book to the finish. I disagree with the negative reviews. It’s difficult to find one protagonist. Redemptive qualities appear in several characters. Unveiling underlying bitter motives of shallow religious convictions, this book invites the reader to consider a better understanding of self and religious movements in our world.
