Historia
Not since the publication of his own beloved classic Lonesome Dove has there been a novel like this one, another big, brilliant, unputdownable saga of the West from Larry McMurtry. Telegraph Days is at once a major work of literature and a completely absorbing read, not just great fiction, but fiction on a great scale.

Reminded me of Reader's digest abridged stories
Revisado: 04-20-25
I love Larry McMurtry. Lonesome Dove Series is still an incredible read. This book just felt rushed with really skeleton character development. Similar to E. Doctorow Ragtime, every character you kind of heard about interacts with the main character but there is no substance to any of them. I think if you buy this, expecting a story like Comanche Moon, you'll be disappointed.

Story forgotten
Revisado: 07-11-24
This is a story about the dumbest people. Rich suburbanite gets sexually assaulted and then does everything stupid to avoid dealing with it including not recognizing that she was given a "date rape drug" most likely...it is cinderella in reverse, she is born with a golden slipper and turns into a pumpkin. Listen to this and you will lose valuable precious time and when it is finally over you will spend at least 60 seconds contemplating the meaningless end. On a plus side, the narrator is really talented, with a great read. She should review the book because her talent was wasted reading this nonsense.

Journey to nowhere
Revisado: 03-29-24
I listen to audible books while running. This kept my interest until the last 2 chapters, where I think the author had to wrap it up and instead hacked it up. I don't want to "spoil" the story, but the ending is insulting. No sane organization would set up a hiring structure like this. The story is not rational and the end game is not sane. My recommendation, listen to this book if you have a need to be treated like an idiot. It is entertaining for awhile.

Audible took it back!
Revisado: 04-04-23
Book was good enough but Audible removed it from its' plus catalogue regardless of the fact we were almost done with it! You would think a company with exclusive rights to like every book ever read would have the courtesy to let people finish it before taking it back. Bottom line, we love audible books but audible corp. not so much!

Historia
Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her - her identity, her spirit, her will to live - pay. Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: Every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at 17 years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.
Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life.

Painful
Revisado: 08-10-18
Just goes on and on and on and on. I kept thinking surely this will get interesting. It's just a depressing story about depressed people who are like 17 years old and already so damaged that they must as well just become alcoholics. I finished it out of desperation, hoping there would be something redeemable in the end. But I was wrong.

Love during the Apocalypse
Revisado: 11-13-17
Imagine going back to hunting and gathering to survive and throw in cloudy gray skies, ash filled snow and freezing temperatures ! Unlike the pessimism of The Road, the book is hopeful and it is also a unique love story. Not one which starts with a sexual attraction but with a need to trust and rely on another human to survive. I loved the way both protagonists fell under each other's "spell" and ultimately fell in love based on mutual experiences where they had to rely on each other. It really was an amazing tale and I felt lost for a bit when it ended. Kept me running long distances and not minding traffic jams! That's why I love someone telling me a tale....to escape!

Historia
Graham Hancock has spent decades researching and writing some of the most ambitious and successful nonfiction investigations into ancient civilizations and wisdom. Entangled uses all of Hancock's skills and knowledge to propel a fantasy adventure like nothing else preceding it. This is a time-slip novel, alternating between present-day California, Brazil, and prehistoric Spain, with two teenage female protagonists who must come together to avert an incredibly bloodthirsty takeover of the human race.

NO SEQUEL! It's a great story but only half told and looks like you'll have to wait "forever" to find out the ending since it was written in 2011 and 6 years later, no ending. I will tell you how it ends----on next review.

The true spirit of rebellion!
Revisado: 08-09-12
I remember the first time struggling with my Apple IIc to get on telnet ( pre-browser without GUI)...and typing with someone from India. The book captures the entire spirit of what it is like to live in a cerebral world in the middle of a deteriorating socio-economic system. Never underestimate the mind of a motivated kid!!! It has a happy ending which was nice, though probably unrealistic. We live today in a corporate spider web, all our tools of technology have a hidden side---we ignore it usually or forget about it, but it is real just the same. This book brings the hidden side to the forefront, it is a work of absolute genius.
After reading or listening to this, make sure you read or listen to Cory Doctorow's "Little Brother" ---both of these authors have captured something that will change your perspective and realign you a bit closer to reality.

Revisado: 05-14-07
This is the absolute worst way to learn a language. It is randomly chosen vocabulary words without contrast, spoken without clear enunciation and annoying muzak in the background. By the time you begin to pronounce one word, the next is fired at you. In addition the words are often rediculous....phrases like "the hope". the chainsaw......
