Historia
In Camera Man, film critic Dana Stevens pulls the lens out from Keaton’s life and work to look at concurrent developments in entertainment, journalism, law, technology, the political and social status of women, and the popular understanding of addiction. With erudition and sparkling humor, Stevens hopscotches among disciplines to bring us up to the present day, when Keaton’s breathtaking (and sometimes life-threatening) stunts remain more popular than ever as they circulate on the internet in the form of viral gifs

Excellent Hollywood bio
Revisado: 07-06-23
So many Hollywood bios fail to put their star in context and the books are dull recitations of facts and movie plots. Finishing those books, you feel as distant from the person as you did before you invested the time in the book. Happily, this book is not one of those—it puts Keaton in context of the time and the context of his career and often gives several “camera angles” by having corroborating witnesses. An excellent effort. The performance is also excellent as the author’s enthusiasm for her subject is obvious.

Historia
From the archives of the American Film Institute comes a unique picture of what it was like to work in Hollywood from its beginnings to its present day. Gleaned from nearly three thousand interviews, involving four hundred voices from the industry, Hollywood: The Oral History, lets a listener “listen in” on candid remarks from the biggest names in front of the camera—Bette Davis, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Harold Lloyd—to the biggest behind it—Frank Capra, Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Jordan Peele, as well as the lesser known individuals that shaped what was heard and seen on screen.

Buy and read the actual book
Revisado: 05-29-23
This book is delightful and full of old Hollywood gems. However, you should get the actual book. The male reader did not do his homework and said many well-known names wrong. The most outstanding one: Bet Davis. Really? She has a pop song with her name in the title. Read the book yourself and avoid the annoyance of this numbskull’s lack of professionalism.

Historia
Told in the unmistakable voice of America’s immortal storyteller, this chronicle of a vanishing past is a tale of two journeys. The first is that of Samuel Clemens, young antebellum-era steamboat pilot who navigates wide-eyed passengers on the Mississippi. And the second tells of a reflective Mark Twain. He’d return, years later, to observe the inevitable and dismaying post-Civil War developments along the currents of the ever-changing Great River.

Fine, but one big flaw
Revisado: 11-29-21
The narrator mispronounced Cairo, Illinois through the whole thing. It’s Karo, like the syrup, not Cairo, like Egypt.
