I enjoyed the main character, something about her is very likeable. Supporting characters and story started off well but I think it took a wrong turn. I don’t regret listening, but it didn’t leave me searching for a book #2.

I thought the character set up and the premise has promise, the beginning g had promise but then it fizzled out. . It was a slow read with a lot of over explaining. And in the end the story never really went anywhere.

Story idea was good but it didn’t quite come together. Some things didn’t line up, in my opinion. Also a lot of words that brought nothing to the store. Narration- voice was pleasant but sounded like a 3rd grade reading. Voices were terrible.

So close to being good ...

It wasn’t horrible, but some definite issues. A lot of characters to keep track of, and it gets a bit frustrating. The narrator has a pleasant voice, skating on the line of monotone - but while I don’t always enjoy the voices down narrators use, I think there needs to be a bit of something to differentiate between characters and this had none, even a slightly longer pause would have helped but she just plowed right through. The story had potential, but in the end it was easy to figure out. The ending was pretty anticlimactic. Also when reading about the book it said nothing about being part of a series, I still don’t know if it is- but they keep mentioning past events but with no real details - super annoying bc while I don’t know if it would have made an impact on the story they keep bringing it up! Over and over .. if there are book you should read first, then someone put that in the ‘about book’ info!!

I think the story could be good with a few tweaks. It was somewhat predictable especially as the plot starts to go nowhere. Not to give too much away, but there comes a point when there are 3 suspects, and the story covers them being interviewed - my 5 year old could probably have told you ‘who done it’ after that chapter, but the main characters could not. The book was a bit frustrating at times before , but it was hard to keep going after that. I would recommend the author invest in a thesaurus as well - because ‘SOB’ is not the only way to refer to a ‘SOB’, though you would never know that from this book. By the last few chapters it felt like she was just repeating her self to meet a word quota ... maybe had she switched it up with a ‘son of a b*%ch’ that could have helped her out with meeting her goal.

Narrator aside ...

The book is good - or the story is. Sometimes the author looses you because of the constant ‘need’ to have the characters go on and on and on about their feelings ... but seriously the female narrator is the absolute worst. She has mad me skip over numerous books just because I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle her. I started listening to this book without being able to stop, got interested, and suffered thru. I did skip about 8 chapters at the end just because I was done with the voice and done with the unnecessary word vomit.

Enjoyable Story

The story keeps you listening/reading - but man oh man even with the sex scenes I think I would enjoy my grandma narrating more. At the end of every sentence - and I mean EVERY SENTENCE it sounds like she is out of breath and/or finishing up a one-liner ... and once you notice it’s like you can’t stop listening for it - so so so annoying.

The idea for the story was good ... but it drags on a lot. Characters - especially Sarah- tend to repeat their inner dialog a lot....I found myself wanting to yell ‘ok, I get it’ several times.
