Historia
2016 Pulitzer Prize-winning memoirist of Barbarian Days William Finnegan had devoted his days to chasing waves as a lifelong surfer. When his adolescent daughter, Mollie, proves to be a natural-born climber, Finnegan follows his newfound passion toward rock climbing. It’s an arduous apprenticeship, and it turns the parent-child dynamic on its head, as Mollie slips into the role of coach and mentor, while her father has to push his limits to keep pace.

While I appreciate 2 free books a month I’m still waiting for one that doesn’t leave me feeling empty afterward.
I don’t have kids, but love all sports so found hearing about climbing details interesting.
Narration was good, thoughtful, but still empty at the end.
Just okay...

You may already know about the power of Sports Psychology to boost physical abilities, skyrocket motivation and banish nerves, the only problem is that most of these strategies are reserved for pro-athletes and coaches or found in thick technical books costing a fortune. So what is going to give you the edge, at home, at work or at your next big competition? You need more than just facts and figures. More than technical jargon. You need easy-to-use tips and techniques in plain English. You need an Invincible Mind.

Lots of repeat info/Dated 2019/AWFUL narration!
Revisado: 11-03-19
While there are some useful tidbits for athletes in this book, from a sport psychology standpoint a lot is already in print, and duplicated in MANY books if you read this kind of thing. MMA tips are rather obvious and much of the beginning narration and often throughout is as if he is talking to a child. Rather annoying. Not the best book I've read on these topic. Not the worst either. Just ok.

When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

Okay if you know the series. Predictable.
Revisado: 11-03-19
Not one to write a long review but here's my thoughts: after listening to a story for 17 hours I'd like to have an ending that is a punch line, not predictable. This is beyond predictable at every turn and NOT a stand alone book. End leads to others in the series or I would not have purchased. Good narration.

This story appealed to the animal behaviourist side of my personality and enjoyed the narration. Compassion to all creatures, humans. Not one to give books 5 stars but this did it for me.

Historia
This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

Another Awesome Ken Follett
Revisado: 09-30-19
I'm a fan of his writing about strong women, less desirable from a social perspective and history. This book starts in a coal mining town and revolves around social issues of the times, and of course a love story. Listened on a 17 hour drive and for the first time since Pillars, was hooked to the end. :) Loved it.

Beautifully deep book beyond my expectations
Revisado: 09-02-16
If you could sum up H Is for Hawk in three words, what would they be?
Symbolic of life
What was one of the most memorable moments of H Is for Hawk?
This book was incredible. One of my favorites ever and another couldn't stop listening til the end. It is a tale about how we learn to care for ourselves by caring for other things, how animals help our grief. I personally took to it because of the "solitude" in her being with the animal...
What about Helen Macdonald’s performance did you like?
Everything. Beautiful narration.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Borring daily life not disaster
Revisado: 09-02-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Those who would appreciate a daily diary of all those on the boat days and weeks prior to the disaster and what was going on in their personal lives. I didn't care to hear about that and found it very boring!
What could Erik Larson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
More about the boat, not about the people on it non-fiction.YAWN!
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, liked the narration.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dead Wake?
Contiguous with theme.
