Historia
Jessica Holloway is miserable. As mom to two ungrateful, almost-grown children and wife to one appreciative-but-needy husband, she has all-but-abandoned the extraordinary—and extraordinarily fun—woman she used to be. She may be smiling while she volunteers at the school's dog wash fundraiser, but inside, she's seething. Having traded her future as a high-powered attorney for motherhood nearly two decades ago, she's now desperate to reconnect with the woman she once was. Pushed to her breaking point, Jessica is secretly terrified at what she might do.

Will she ever be fun again?
Revisado: 12-01-24
I liked this book a lot until the last chapter. Sharing the journey of an uninspired house with with two ungrateful teenagers snd a less than understanding husband, I related to some of her frustrations. I was cheering for her as I found her likable and all of the characters believable. Mid-way through I couldn’t forsee the end. I was very happy with the resolution but the last chapter ruined it for me. Except for that the book would have been a four * for me. The narrator was awesome.

West With the Night - Says It All
Revisado: 08-31-24
West With The Night tells a story so personal I felt every emotion as she tells the story of a magical life. Not that she saw it that way. The tone is matter of fact yet her descriptions, sights and sounds bring the reader right into her life.
The narrator is awesome. Always spot on with the tone of the story.
I highly recommend it.

To look or not to look
Revisado: 05-22-24
Everyone in the world 21 and over receives a box in which there is a string that indicates precisely when they will die. The Measure follows about a dozen people making decisions on whether or not to look in the box or making decisions based on the length of their strings. Moving and very human the reader will inevitably wonder would I look or not? Que sera sera.

A bevy of interesting characters bring this book alive
Revisado: 04-20-24
This book was very different from others I’ve read by Nora Roberts. At the beginning I didn’t think I was going to like it. But the longer I listened the more it drew me in.
The narration was very good, but she dropped Emma’s accent in a few places then brought it back. Didn’t hurt the story but it was noticeable.
I liked this one so much I might have to try a JDRobb book.

Historia
The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is a family business, an idyllic spot for vacationers. A little over thirty thousand acres and home to four generations, it’s kept running by Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire Callen Skinner. There was another member of the family once: Bodine’s aunt, Alice, who ran off before Bodine was born.

Kept me on the edge of my seat
Revisado: 03-11-24
The writing was colorful and detailed. The narration was pitch perfect.
I like a book where you think you know what’s going to happen and it takes a twist and surprises you. This multi-generational family each played a believable roll. You’re going to love Bodeine if you like strong, independent women. 5 stars for me.

Lily Chu Rocks
Revisado: 11-22-23
The Comeback is my third Lily Chu story. And the best! I loved looking at the world through determined lawyer Ari’s eyes. And was heartbroken when she slowly became aware of the discrimination that was holding her back.
The love story was deftly written so that you know what’s going to happen but it doesn’t and then it looks obvious but it isn’t. The supporting characters are woven seamlessly into the story giving it color and depth.
The story is moving in unexpected ways. I will definitely be looking for more from this talented storyteller.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Twisty, Turny Romance
Revisado: 11-19-23
Different than so many romance stories this created interesting, likable characters. It took some unexpected twist s and turns but even when you figure them out before the characters you root for all to end well. This is my second Lily Chu book. I will keep my eye out for more.

Stellar Story
Revisado: 06-26-23
I finished this book in two days. I couldn’t stop listening. A wonder-filled, authentic story about movie making (yes I’ve been part of the movie business). This took me right back on set. Tom Hanks proves here he is not only an iconic actor but also a magical storyteller. The multiple story lines blend seamlessly bringing all of the characters alive. If you are at all interested in moviemaking this is a must read. Only interested in a meaty story? You won’t be disappointed.

Gripping story about the end of WWII in Rome
Revisado: 06-08-23
Knowing next to nothing about Italy I was horrified by the conditions the Italians lived through. This story is not for the weak of heart. A gripping historical novel based on extensive research. Don’t miss listening to the author’s comments at the end.
The story lines are excellent. Many unexpected things happen— at least they were not expected by me. The Nazi horrors were brought to light.
The narrator was generally very good but sometimes I found it annoying when she whisper-talked.
I did not really “enjoy” the book but I couldn’t stop listening.
