The honesty of the author
Revisado: 06-24-24
This book is both raw and cultivated, and I found it to be one of the best war memoirs of any war that I have read.

As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Thank you Bono for the insight into the ‘how’ & ‘why’ of your life. It definitely lowered the barrier between myself and one of my favorite bands. I wish you & the band well in whatever new adventures life brings!

Historia
Almost all accounts of D-Day are told from the Allied perspective, with the emphasis on how German resistance was overcome on June 6, 1944. But what was it like to be a German soldier in the bunkers and gun emplacements of the Normandy coast, facing the onslaught of the mightiest seaborne invasion in history? What motivated the German defenders, what were their thought processes - and how did they fight from one strong point to another, among the dunes and fields, on that first cataclysmic day?

Gripping
Revisado: 09-02-19
This was the most graphic and literal war biography I have read; from any side. I was horrified and fascinated. And so thankful that I was not present. I will be listening to this one again as soon as I listen to volume two.

I really disliked this book.
Revisado: 08-29-19
I am not a military veteran or a hard-line hawk. But I found this author to be self-absorbed to the point of distraction. While some of the information about his engagements and the imperfections of the "greatest generation" to be revealing, it was all about the author and his personal beliefs.
I tried desperately to finish this book; but ran out of patience after 12 hours. A tip of the hat to those of you that endure this boring epic to the end.

Historia
An incredible but true account of achieving one of the most awe-inspiring midlife physical transformations ever. In October 2006, the night before he was to turn 40, Rich experienced a chilling glimpse of his future. Nearly 50 pounds overweight and unable to climb the stairs without stopping, he saw where his sedentary lifestyle was taking him. Most of us look the other way when granted such a moment of clarity, but not Rich.

Tough to hear
Revisado: 02-10-19
I am not into celebrity train wrecks and therefore did not enjoy 2 hours of listening to Rich’s descent into self injury. I am happy for him coming clean in the end; I just could not force myself to endure 7 more hours of it. This is one of the few books I have ever returned to Audible.
