Historia
In Tides: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean, writer, sailor, and surfer Jonathan White takes listeners across the globe to discover the science and spirit of ocean tides. In the Arctic, White shimmies under the ice with an Inuit elder to hunt for mussels in the dark cavities left behind at low tide; in China, he races the Silver Dragon, a 25-foot tidal bore that crashes 80 miles up the Qiantang River; in France, he interviews the monks that live in the tide-wrapped monastery of Mont Saint-Michel; in Chile and Scotland, he investigates the growth of tidal power generation.

Not for me
Revisado: 03-26-23
This book may have been more aptly named White Male Perspectives on Tidal Phenomena. Could the author not find a single female scientist? What about the perspectives of indigenous communities living with these extreme tidal variations? Honestly I just got tired of hearing about Newton and Aristotle. It read like a 1950s text book.

Historia
We are living in a time when behavioral change is necessary for our health and survival. Yet we find it exceedingly difficult to transform our own habits, let alone those of other people. Enter Naohiro Matsumura, whose powerful new design method is as astonishingly simple in its logic as it is sophisticated in its psychology. It allows any of us to address challenges in our homes, our public spaces, and our social interactions.

An original! I haven’t read anything like this before. Although some of the implications of Shikake are somewhat dark, troubling, It got me thinking critically about my own behaviors in designed spaces.
