As I was born a Texan, lived a Texan and will be buried in Texas soil, I have long been enthralled by the story of the Alamo. Mr. Lord’s book gives interesting details and backgrounds of the Alamo defenders and of a lot of their reasoning for being there. Well worth your time if you are interested in Texas history and how the bravery of 183 men instilled more with the determination and courage to set the course to develop what has become Texas today.
The sad part was the narration. One would think that the producers of this book could have come up with a better choice. First of all, the cadence was so annoyingly slow that I had to speed it up to 1.25 speed on my device. This is the second book I have listened to this month featuring this narrator and I had to do the same on the other one. His pronunciations of locales, especially early in the book was atrocious, especially the names Nacogdoches, Bexar and Sabine. Later in the narration, he seemed to get the first of these somewhat corrected, but never Sabine. It doesn’t really matter to most but it bothered me that the editor/publisher didn’t do a little research. The narrator should have enough pride in his profession to maybe do a little himself. I know that movie/television actors do research on historical roles they play. He to is an actor so he too is culpable.

Have always known of the impact Admiral Nimitz had on the Pacific war effort but never knew the depth of his personality. This well written book should convince most readers that power does not have to corrupt. His caring personality and commitment to family and friends really stood out.
If you are intrigued by great historical figures, you should get this book.
Narrator was a little too fast in his delivery but book did move along without bogging down with minutiae.

The most astonishing thing, to me, was Churchill’s insight into the future. He foresaw so many things that laid ahead for both himself and the world. He was exactly what the world needed during one of bleakest of times in human history.
The narration was excellent as Churchill’s speeches were delivered as though he had been returned to us to deliver them.
I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a more detailed look at how liberty was saved and that how one exceptional individual played a large part in it.

I found Mr. Symonds novel to be equal to and probably better than his other excellent works. I also was impressed with his narration because it was presented with an expertise that comes with his vast knowledge of the subject and his ability to express it in the manner he intended it to be received.
I would recommend this book to anyone that is interested in the history of what effort it took, from our entire nation, to bring the terrible thing of war to an end. This especially goes for my generation, the baby boomers.
I was born, raised and currently live in rural East Texas and a large percentage of people from this area migrated to Houston during the war, including my mother and father. He worked in a gun plant and she took in borders that mostly consisted of her extended family that had come down to work in plants that supported the war effort. My dad quickly advanced and was in charge of training women to work in the gun plant.
Mr. Symonds book gives the reader an understanding of the detail and planning that it took for Overlord to be successful.
I rate this book with the highest marks.

The war in the Pacific holds a particular fascination for me and I have a rather large library on the subject.
Mr. Tillman has written a book full of insightful information and ties it together well. My only problem with the writing was how he used too many nicknames in his descriptions of the opposing forces, leading to confusion in relation to “who was who”.
I had to back up continuously to be sure of the facts.
I usually enjoy Joe Barrett’s narratives but found his reading to be too fast paced. It was as though he was rushing to finish. I actually slowed my device down to .75 speed to be better able to catch every word.
Other than that, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who likes detailed information.

I like the Harbath character but could not get past the narrators terrible pace. Do not like Guidall;s narration of any authors.

Narration was ok but story did not, as advertised, revolve around Jack Ryan. It was more a story of "The Campus". Way to much "computer geek" talk. Could tell that it was not a true Clancy story. The Jack Ryan actions that I was looking for (Debt of Honor,Executitive Orders) did not exist. This book should be listed as a Jack Ryan Jr. novel.

Whether it is playing football in Italy, painting a house in 1950 era Arkansas or making you wonder where the millions came from in a legal thriller,Grisham has the ability to "pull" you in, and keep hanging on the next word.
The Confession, unabridged, is a powerful and ensightful story that makes us think "What if this happened to me". I recognize this as a much used method in fictional writing but, Grisham has raised it to another level.
I have lived in East Texas all my life and know a lot about the culture and politics of the region. This COULD truly happen; and probably has.
