Historia
While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out that he and his family would be ready and safe—whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead.

Filled with useless/incompetent women. Strange since it’s written by a woman.
Revisado: 05-04-25
While the story isn’t terrible, the female characters go out of their way to be problems in all four books. You notice it right at the beginning and even the tough female characters have moments of amazing stupidity.
The last book has a really rushed ending and the surprise attack doesn’t make sense is the context of the rest of the story.

Definitely a letdown.
Revisado: 08-30-23
I absolutely loved the first three books. I have read them multiple times and the story just enveloped me. This book left me feeling nothing.
The story was slow, right until the end and then it was rushed. This book felt more preachy than the original three. The protagonists spent most of the story “damning” each other to hell. It was a worn out line by part 2.
There were some throwbacks to the previous books which was nice, but I felt like this story was cobbled together just to get another book out there. I was really excited for a continuation of John’s story. I feel robbed to be honest.
The narrator wasn’t great in this one either. While he tried to switch it up, nearly everyone sounds like General Scales.
Slight spoiler coming….skip this paragraph
Why oh why did the author forget John had two daughters, and a grandchild? What the heck happened there? What about Bernett? He was super important in the originals. Shame he didn’t play a part in this one. Just a bummer.

Character Dialogue is unbelievable
Revisado: 08-21-23
I’ll start by saying the narrator does not do the author any favors. The conversations are meshed together and really don’t align with the seriousness of the situation.
The author does a good job in laying out the scenery and the story isn’t bad. It starts slow and does have a ton of character conversations that do nothing for the story and makes some of the events drag on.
The absolute worst part is the unimaginative reader. His voice is calm and collected throughout the whole story. It’s flat and bland. The guy has an awesome voice, it would have been nice if he had included a bit of energy while reading.
This one took me a long time to get through. I stopped it a number of times because I was truly annoyed by the boring back and forth between the characters.

Brad is a great author
Revisado: 12-11-21
This is his first book, and it’s well done. He has really improved his writing on his new books, but you will find this book is fun and has a well thought out story.
Worth the listen.

Nicely wrapped up
Revisado: 08-28-21
Brandon did a good job of finalizing his story. The characters were all well represented and the environments were well defined.
I’d like to think humans would behave differently in similar situations, but he is probably correct. We are inherently evil.
Nice job Brandon

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.
