Historia
On the shores of a tranquil fjord in northern Iceland, a man is brutally beaten to death on a bright summer's night. As the 24-hour light of the arctic summer is transformed into darkness by an ash cloud from a recent volcanic eruption, a young reporter leaves Reykajvik to investigate on her own, unaware that an innocent person's life hangs in the balance. Ari Thor Arason and his colleagues on the tiny police force in Siglufjordur struggle with an increasingly perplexing case, while their own serious personal problems push them to the limit.

Lost in translation?
Revisado: 05-08-25
Blackout did not have the air of intrigue or the tight dialogue that made me an instant fan of Jonasson. Was this the result of translation? The less than intense narration was also disappointing.

Yay! No bad language!
Revisado: 01-16-24
I loved Dervla McTiernan's novels until the cursing got excessive and I could no longer listen. Although this novella didn't have the same appeal for me as the Cormac Reilly mysteries, it was refreshing not to constantly wince.

Sappy and overdramatic
Revisado: 11-28-22
The story was very predictable and the overdramatic narration made it difficult to listen to.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-19-22
The narrator did a wonderful job. The story, however, was shallow and predictable, nothing like the other Valpy novels I'd read (Dressmaker's Gift; Beekeeper's Promise especially) It was only after I finished I realized this was a 2013 novel recorded in recent years.
