Historia
By the time Henry Kissinger was made secretary of state in 1973, he had become, according to a Gallup poll, the most admired person in America and one of the most unlikely celebrities ever to capture the world’s imagination. Yet Kissinger was also reviled by large segments of the American public, ranging from liberal intellectuals to conservative activists. Kissinger explores the relationship between this complex man's personality and the foreign policy he pursued.

Engaging
Revisado: 11-19-24
I grew up with the governmental actions of Henry Kissinger in the public limelight. I never spent much energy to understand his role in national affairs at that time. So the book was a great opportunity to learn about a major contributor to my generation’s national history. The author does a great job explaining Kissinger’s rationale and actions through a review of his life beginning in pre-war Europe through his academic professional life. Like many of the author’s other biographies, the good and bad are brought out about the subject on a balanced basis. The author leaves it to the reader to make a final judgement.

Historia
Mark Lane tried the only US court case in which the jurors concluded that the CIA plotted the murder of President Kennedy, but there was always a missing piece: How did the CIA control cops and secret service agents on the ground in Dealey Plaza? How did federal authorities prevent the House Select Committee on Assassinations from discovering the truth about the complicity of the CIA? Now, Mark Lane tells all in this explosive new book.

First hand testimony well researched
Revisado: 09-07-24
This book lays out an abundance of flaws of the discredited Warren Commission investigation into the JFK assassination. This book’s author is an attorney who personally pursued evidence for 50 years from the time of the murder. If you have any interest in the subject, this book is a seminal piece. This book was written late in the author’s life after he had published other works on the subject. It captures much of his life experiences.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

I enjoyed the story of Oppenheimer. I read the book after seeing the movie but still learned many nuances of the development of Oppenheimer and other individuals including his family members and government officials. I recommend this book.

Historia
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and author. In this New York Times bestselling biography, Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer's life—the theologian and the spy—and draws them together to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil.

20th Century Giant
Revisado: 02-12-24
I knew nothing of Dietrich Bonhoeffer before listening to this book. I’m glad I took the chance to listen. A man of principle and dedicated to his belief in the divinity is well laid out in this book. I applaud his conduct to fight the government sponsored evil of his country during his life. His was a virtuous but unpopular stance in those seemingly god forsaken times.

Historia
How did the Wendels, one of New York’s most famous Gilded Age families, disappear from history? The Wendels built a fortune from New York real estate, and rubbed shoulders with the Astors, Vanderbilts, and Stuyvesants. But as the 19th century came to an end, the Wendel family tore itself apart. Following six years of painstaking archival research, Claire Prentice has prised open the door of the Wendels’ Fifth Avenue mansion—dubbed “the house of mystery” by the press—to reveal a fascinating and dysfunctional family imprisoned in a gilded cage.

Crazy Band
Revisado: 10-07-23
I never knew the story behind the scenes and the interesting FM music coming over the airwaves. For such a talented band, they had a lot of elements of self destructive behavior. As great as they were they seem to have short changed their potential. I am pretty sure if the band did today what the book reports, they would not have been allowed to continue unimpeded. I give credit to the book and it’s author for bringing to life a lot of history and stories. The fact is their music was unique and revolutionary in Rock history which carried them into rarified heights.

Historia
At the height of the Cold War, JFK risked committing the greatest crime in human history: starting a nuclear war. Horrified by the specter of nuclear annihilation, Kennedy gradually turned away from his long-held Cold Warrior beliefs and toward a policy of lasting peace. But to the military and intelligence agencies in the United States, who were committed to winning the Cold War at any cost, Kennedy's change of heart was a direct threat to their power and influence.

Great Book, Very Informative and Well Documented
Revisado: 09-13-23
I was referred this book. I was not disappointed. Wow!! I recommend this book especially to those with limited knowledge of the facts around the 1963 killing of JFK.
The author did his homework. It’s a testament to truth and the enduring spirit of the Kennedy presidency. I’m too young to have had an opinion on that. What is unequivocal is the seemingly endless ties between the military deep state and the Dallas 1963 assassination enablers. Sixty years later we see similar attacks on the executive branch and American people by complicit complexes when threatened. We all know how well the post JFK administration ripped apart the nation. Endless war is failure. JFK showed a willingness to see matters through the eyes of our adversaries in order to seek mutual common ground.

Historia
At the height of his fame and influence during World War II, Ernie Pyle’s nationally syndicated dispatches from combat zones shaped America’s understanding of what the war felt like to ordinary soldiers, as no writer’s work had before or has since. From North Africa to Sicily, from the beaches of Anzio to the beaches of Normandy, and on to the war in the Pacific, where he would meet his end, Ernie Pyle had a genius for connecting with his beloved dogfaced grunts. In The Soldier's Truth, acclaimed writer David Chrisinger brings Pyle’s journey to vivid life in all its heroism and pathos.

Thomas Jefferson asserted that if there was any leader of the Revolution, “Samuel Adams was the man.” With high-minded ideals and bare-knuckle tactics, Adams led what could be called the greatest campaign of civil resistance in American history. Stacy Schiff returns Adams to his seat of glory, introducing us to the shrewd and eloquent man who supplied the moral backbone of the American Revolution, bringing her masterful skills to Adams’s improbable life, illuminating his transformation from aimless son of a well-off family to tireless, beguiling radical who mobilized the colonies.
