The Ending is Worth The Wait
Revisado: 03-05-25
The story line pulled together very slowly. The subject of pedicted deaths is a little gloomy. But the author pulls it together in such a way that it leaves you with a warm feeling, thankful to be alive and it reminds me to appreciate life every day.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

This was a very long book

I think it is a book about existentialism. The main character is glum. Still the idea of writing a book centering on a piece of artwork is interesting. Parts of the book tend to drag.

Historia
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

The Narrator sounded angry through most of the book
Revisado: 09-27-24
This book seemed throw together quickly mixing in parts that didn't even matter. If you like themes of abuse, rape, incest and murder thrown at you in a weird inconsistent way, then you will like this book.

This author wove her story with that of other refugeez very effectively. She clearly shows the plight of anyone fleeing their country. The thought process of the author and the clear expression of the problems runs deep. This is a very powerful book.

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

One of the best books I have ever listened to
Revisado: 06-21-24
The combination of Dr Bruce Perry and OprahWinfrey was very powerful. True examples and how the brain works in trauma situations. I never wanted to stop listening. The book did give me some ideas on how to help some traumatized refugee children although not in a clinical setting. It is sending me in the right direction to look for more help.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Revisado: 08-20-20
The storyline did not move along fast. I would like to know about the main events in Hamilton’s life but not in this much detail. For example, I don’t care about speculations on how he felt about his mother and how that may have affected the rest of his life. Also the reader/narrator spoke in a very gossiping tone which grew tiresome for me.

Historia
Three decades after Khomeinist thugs raided the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Westerners are puzzled by Iran. As a nation, Iranians still like the United States. As a revolutionary regime, however, Iran is the principal bastion of anti-Americanism. From Ayatollah Khomeini's "historic mission" to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's messianic campaign in the name of the "Hidden Imam," The Persian Night depicts a trajectory that will most likely lead to war.

Historia
For nearly a decade, Amy Chozick chronicled Hillary Clinton's pursuit of the presidency. Chozick's front-row seat, initially at the Wall Street Journal covering Mrs. Clinton's imploding 2008 campaign, and then at the New York Times where she was assigned "The Hillary Beat", set off a years-long journey in which the formative years of her twenties and thirties became, both personally and professionally, intrinsically intertwined to Clinton's presidential ambitions.

Historia
At a time when the war in Afghanistan is the focus of renewed attention, and its outcome is more crucial than ever to our own security, Masood Farivar draws on his unique experience as a native Afghan, a former mujahideen fighter, and a longtime U.S. resident to provide unprecedented insight into the ongoing collision between Islam and the West. This is a visceral, clear-eyed, and illuminating memoir from an indispensable new voice on the world stage.

I could listen to this story many times
Revisado: 02-26-14
What did you love best about Confessions of a Mullah Warrior?
Perhaps Masood Farivar knew what parts of his life might be interesting to others. There is a lot of humor in this book - very dry humor which I love. It is a biography of the life of someone who's home land is Afganistan. It was a window to his world and not just what all he did and where he was but about how he felt about things: thoughts and feelings. Mr. Farivar is a very good story teller.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Confessions of a Mullah Warrior?
The author weaves the story like any good storyteller. Like how he talks about his beard at different times throughout the story. He is very respectful of everyone he talks about and his humor is woven into the story like an artist.
Have you listened to any of Christopher Lane’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have never heard Christopher Lane as far as I know but I would look for his name as someone I enjoy listening to. He sounded like he was the author himself. He knew just how to read it and the inflections in the right places.
Any additional comments?
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about the world we live in.
