For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Confusing, hard to follow
Revisado: 06-27-24
For some reason, I found the story very hard to follow so many different timelines without a clear break in between and it took a long time to know what was going on.. Even the big reveals, yes, plural big reveals at the end of the story seemed contrived.
Best like to say is this story was difficult.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 03-02-23
I love Dean Koontz, I love the elements of mystery and mysticism. I had trouble with this particular offering though. Not sure if it was subject matter or what. I know I had trouble following who was who, just so many characters that had more than one name. Ending seemed a bit rushed but I still listened to the completion.

Somehow I finished this…
Revisado: 06-06-22
Not one of my Favorites. Not sure if it was the setting, Russia and surrounding countries which required strange names and locations or if it was the narrator the came off like a college professor in a lecture hall. Either way, I found it confusing and torture to finished. Never figured out who the good guys were supposed to be.

Torture
Revisado: 11-18-21
Sorry, nothing good to say about this book. It was torture to finish listening to it. The writing was poor. Not a narrative but more like a screenplay being read-filled with she said, he replied. I normally prefer unabridged books but this one had so many in-necessary comments I wish I had gotten the Reader’s Digest condensed version.
Then there’s the reader. She was bad. Improper inflections at the end of the sentences, poor phrasing. Sounded like she was reading a bedtime story to a child. She lacked the ability to change her voice for different characters as I’ve heard better readers do.
I’ll think long and hard before purchasing another book from this author.

So Bad

Awful audio, expect better!
Revisado: 10-25-21
Where to start?
Story wise it was weak. After listening to Stephen King and Dean Koontz I’ve come to expect a certain level of brilliance in the books I listen to, this book was terribly lacking! Especially annoying was that it was broken into 8 episodes, short little 20-30 minute episodes that required a 2 minute recap!
The production was shoddy and annoying, exclusive to Audio Books in no way means quality. Why did Audio Books choose to break up this short 3.5 book into 8 parts and NOY allow them to play back to back? Instead, I had to stop what I was doing and manually start the next episode. Not cool.
The story was week, production was poorly done and the story seem tune for a middle school intellectual it it weren’t for the subject matter (murder/suicide).
Audio Books needs to aim higher with their free material.

Harlan Coben has been added to my list of favorite authors. The Woods was and intriguing story with just the right amount of plot twists while avoiding some obvious story lines. Enjoyable listening to the very end.

So very disappointing
Revisado: 04-03-21
Not sure where to start. Hard to believe James Patterson would allow his name to be associated with this story, it’s that bad. I expected a storyline about a cold case, nothing of the sort. The characters were undeveloped, simple caricatures. The performance reminded me of high school acting and that’s an insult to High schools everywhere.
I’d say you get what you pay for, so I guess l shouldn’t complain since it was a free bonus with my membership. I should be glad it’s only a wee bit over 3 hours long, so only a little wasted time listening to it.
Expected much better.

Interesting concept but hard to follow the story line. Too many flip flops, logic fail to make sense. Was about 2 hours too long.
