Compelling story, hard to put down.
Revisado: 05-16-20
A Dangerous Legacy has plenty of action and showing, not too much telling. It was well written and an adventure, for sure!
Not a lot of God, though I wished He was credited more often. A clean read with no disturbing shocks to the senses.
It was well read by Morgan Hallett.

Very well read!
Revisado: 05-15-20
Morgan Hallett read this so well, I think I got more out of it than if I'd read it myself (and that is rare!) I really appreciated the personality she gave vocally to each person.
I really appreciated Zach's passionate, driven personality. I felt he was a well fleshed out character. And I appreciated Molly's development process. I liked the background & development of the girl (Sophie) which made her behavior understandable. And, frankly, I enjoyed most all of the many supporting characters. I felt that their stories were well suited for this time, place, and predicament.
It was an interesting bit of history, (though I find myself wishing more of Molly's story was fact.)

Mistaken identity leads to romance, laughter, and second chances in this inspirational historical romance. The Kansas community of Fairland anticipates the arrival of their new minister. Over the past several months, late in 1882, postmistress Grace Cristler has communicated with Reverend Dille via letters, answering his questions about the little town and its members, and developing an affection for the man who pens thoughtful missives.

Simple
Revisado: 05-13-20
This story was not complex enough.
Sweet characters, but just not believable enough.
The narrator making so many men, especially the main character, to sound like 10-12 year old boys didn't help, but I'm not sure I would have gotten a different experience if I'd read it myself because frankly, Theo's thought process & behavior was like that of a boy.
I was surprised that this story didn't go deeper, after reading a couple others by this author that are within a year or so of her writing this one, but she is a new to me author & this is only the 3rd one I've read by her. I will still give her books another try.

Compelling Epic Journey!
Revisado: 05-10-20
This audio book is probably my absolute favorite audio book, and I've listened to a hundred or more.
Only fault is the ending is a tad bit weak compared to the phenomenal entirety of the story.
The narrator, Sarah Zimmerman, does an incredible job taking us through 4-5 countries with many languages and accents throughout a 15 year period (age 6-21) of a young girl/young woman's life beginning in World War II.

Epic story!
Revisado: 05-10-20
It was a long one! Feels like I just lived 10 years of history in 2 days. Almost a "Gone With the Wind" epic feeling, (but a sweeter ending.) The story covers a great deal of situations and scenarios and relationships.
And it contains some sweet angst! (I'm really fond of the doctor.)
There are many beloved characters, and a few not-so-much.
I do feel there are a couple unresolved situations that, had they been resolved in the story, might have made it 5 stars.
The narrator was okay, especially with certain characters, but lacked something compelling in the regular narration (story in between characters.)
This was not my favorite of Laura Frantz's books, but I am still very glad to have read it. I consider her stories and writing to be thought provoking and time well spent!

Reminds me a little of Hosea.
Revisado: 05-08-20
This was my second book by this author, Kim Vogel Sawyer. The stories have been good, somewhat deep and meaningful, but there are some situations in them that I do not like to read, hear, or see in books or movies. This story includes sexual assault, and even though the act is not graphic, the violence leading up to it still scarred my mind and emotions. Had I known in advance, I would not have read it.
That being said..., I do have a deep spiritual joy to take-away from this young woman's sweet journey to God, and a deepening perspective of forgiveness.
The narrator was fair. Not a deterrent.

The practice of ministering to the widows and orphans is reflected in this story of Christina Willems, a young woman from Kansas, in 1884, who is determined to reopen the poor farm she manages after a fire devastates the property. She finds opposition from many surprising corners but an unlikely ally in a lumber mill owner who wants nothing more than to hold himself aloof from the world and its troubles. Quite an Adventure!
Revisado: 05-06-20
This was my first book by this author. I WILL read another.
This story was full of beloved characters. Some are wonderful examples of Christians who walk in peace, joy and God's love. And many others are struggling with trust issues; each experiencing lessons about letting go of hurts, regrets, or bitterness, and learning to lean in to God and accept how much He values each and every person He has created and died for. All of these truths are so important in any person's life and are great take-aways for this reader, as well.
The story left me with good and positive thoughts and feelings.
The narrator, Pilar Witherspoon, did a very fine job! I enjoyed the different voices she gave the abundant variety of townspeople! I felt that she had a good handle on their personalities.

A Trip Back in Time...
Revisado: 05-04-20
Mostly I enjoyed the history. Laura Frantz includes great details of the frontier period.
This story had many great characters, and a few that were easy to distain. I loved Red Shirt, and Jess (Morrow's brother), and I liked her dad a lot too! Morrow was not my favorite character. I felt she was a bit too passive with just about everyone, and especially thought she could have been more outspoken with her father, as they'd had a close bond. However, she was pretty resilient considering all she endured.
I didn't care much for the narrator's speaking pattern, but the story took me past it at least as often as it bothered me, if not more. (Oddly, she ended most sentences on a down note.)
I do wish the end had one more chapter, so we could bask in the beginning of their future a bit.
