Historia
Blake Ritson, David Warner, Hattie Morahan and John Hurt star in this BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of Dante's epic poem. Inferno: Thirty-five year old Dante finds himself in the middle of a dark wood, in extreme personal and spiritual crisis. Hope of rescue appears in the form of the venerable poet Virgil, now a shade himself, who offers to lead Dante on an odyssey through the afterlife, beginning in the terrifying depths of Hell.

Beautifully done
Revisado: 02-25-23
I completely lost myself in this performance. It was absolutely beautiful. It is my understanding that some parts of the full poem were left out. From my perspective, as a person who has never read the Divine Comedy, it did not detract from the piece. In fact I plan to read the full work in its entirety because of this wonderful audio book. If you are interested at all in the Divine Comedy and want to know what it is all about, don’t miss out….give this a listen.

Historia
Both astonishing and prophetic, The Abolition of Man remains one of C. S. Lewis's most controversial works. Lewis sets out to persuade his audience of the ongoing importance and relevance of universal objective values, such as courage and honor, and the foundational necessity of natural law. He also makes a cogent case that a retreat from these pillars of our educational system, even if in the name of "scientism", would be catastrophic. National Review lists it as number seven on their "100 Best Nonfiction Books of the 20th Century".

Limited only by my own understanding
Revisado: 01-02-23
Very much enjoyed this BUT for me it was not a passive listening experience. There were times when I was stumbling about trying to understand the material with times of momentary clarity where I “got it”. This is my own limitation and the reason for a 4 star related to my experience. I will be listening to this again, and probably often, so as to be more comfortable with the material and to better master the message.

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.

Very good first time exposure
Revisado: 07-27-21
This is the first Warhammer book I have been exposed to. Oddly enough I decided to give it a try because of my love for the Total War game and love the vampire counts. This was a good story narrated by an excellent narrator. In my opinion the narrator alone is what really made me take the plunge and then ultimately stick with the entire story. I was very entertained and feel this audiobook is well worth the purchase and time investment.

Heart felt, rambling, poetic, difficult and beautiful
Revisado: 06-15-21
I laughed, I shook my head in disagreement, I cursed, I learned, I judged, I nodded in agreement and at the end I cried. How many books or audibles do that?

Helpful but sometimes a bit corny
Revisado: 03-06-21
The actual content of the book is good. I found it insightful and practical. The narration was fine but a bit corny from time to time. The author has moments of humor...there is a reason you will learn but the “acting” and voices the narrator uses is a bit distracting IMO

Seeing self-possession as the key to an existence lived 'in accordance with nature', the Stoic philosophy called for the restraint of animal instincts and the importance of upright ethical ideals and virtuous living. Seneca's writings are a profound, powerfully moving and inspiring declaration of the dignity of the individual mind.

just a joy
Revisado: 01-20-21
I will let you judge the value of Seneca's co contribution to Stoic thought. I am here to simply state the joy the narrator brings to this book. it was not long before I felt I was listening to Seneca himself reading his own words.

admittedly I am new to audio books...eyes getting old so gave it a try. the subject material may useful in certain chapters (ch 3 is horrible) but the real issue is the narrator. its stilted, slurred in some spots, poor diction and just hard to listen to. I truly believe it prevents the listener from benefiting from the actual content.
