Perfect!
Revisado: 03-02-25
I have loved all of Jodi Taylor’s books and this is no exception. Adventure and humor is a combination I rarely come across. The time travel element is also a huge bonus, even without it being a huge element of this story (not having the funny history lessons and characterization’s of Sg Mary’s) it didn’t need it. I would like more of an explanation of that dust part at the end though!? Please? I would also love some more background on Pennyroyal. His sister and life before he met Smallhope. I’m hoping that’s what the set up was with Uncle Albert? What is happening there with him being a Micklejohn and saying “Take care of my…?” The narration is also very good. Thanks Jodi!

Main character excuses ridiculous behavior
Revisado: 11-11-24
The Murphy character is really insufferable. I like the story, but that character is just about enough to make me quit listening. The sheer stupidity of her words and actions is really hard to bear. I’m really shocked no one mentions it. Otherwise I like the ideas.

Historia
It’s the year 2000, and while Bunny McGarry is theoretically on sabbatical from the police, he just can’t help sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong. Rosie Flint is an old acquaintance of Bunny’s whose boyfriend mysteriously disappears off the face of the Earth. What starts out as a simple missing person’s case soon gets a whole lot more complicated when it emerges that the boyfriend is not who he claimed to be, and there are some rather sinister people showing an unhealthy interest in Rosie.

Definitely Duncan/Ducie
Revisado: 08-25-24
I love this series - and all of the bits with Duncan (Duci? Sorry if that’s not the spelling) are hilarious. I also love all of the seemingly obscure music references that are always popping up in this authors books - they are little gifts. I was worried the characters would not develop because I started with the paranormal series - but this series stays right on Bunny and supporting characters- so good!

Now Paul Mulchrone finds himself on the run with nobody to turn to except a nurse who has read one-too-many crime novels and a renegade copper with a penchant for violence. Together they must solve one of the most notorious crimes in Irish history. Or else they’ll be history.

Very engaging, keeps you interested
Revisado: 08-06-24
I loved the story, and the narration was also fantastic. There were a few sound discrepancies in the recording, but the voices were outstanding. I hope to see the characters develop- as a stand alone the banter is fantastic, but so many characters are picked up it doesn’t leave room for the main characters to fully flesh out. The focus seems to be on authentic interactions moving the story along more than characters motivations - so far at least. I love all the characters, and the situations are very funny. Excited to get to know the characters better. It makes me feel that maybe the author is also experiencing them -just meeting them for the first time too and getting to know them more and more as the series continues.

Main character has no substance
Revisado: 07-25-24
I mean - congratulations on writing so so much but I think editing and character development are in order. It’s really bothersome how vapid these characters are. They are tropes more than people and kids will see this. The main character has no backbone and allows all manner of nonsense to occur. The characters don’t have an arch or development so it’s next to impossible to care about any of them. The writing actually goes out of its way to not let them make choices. Their choices are made for them through circumstances that are so nonsensical and absent of logic you might want to hit your head on a wall. These characters just keep “having things happen” with no agency. The pure idiocy and snobbery of the main characters father is mind numbing and absurd- and you are forced as a reader to accept the writer must believe it is reasonable and normal behavior as the main character always accepts it as such. It’s also very bothersome that no matter how many times these kids have weird things happen to them in the “world of the Faye” no one EVER believes anyone else when something new happens. That. Makes. No. Sense. Cool idea, but ends up being a lot of talking without development and a barrel full of broken logic chains.

Historia
On a warm spring evening, guests gather in a perfectly manicured garden to celebrate Maggie and Len’s twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Maggie leans against the apple tree, watching her fun-loving husband and darling children as her heart swells with pride. As the joyful party atmosphere disappears into the night, close by, the lifeless body of a young woman is pulled from a river. Slipping upstairs to find the special gift for her adoring husband, Maggie stumbles across something else hidden amongst the dusty boxes of family keepsakes.

Easy beach type listen. Engaging, predictable
Revisado: 07-05-24
The narrator is very good. The story is engaging enough - but the main character, Maggie - good lord she is hard to take. Also, it was quite evident who did it from early on. This made listening to Maggie’s drivel very tedious. Maybe the author couldn’t stand the character either so she decided to torture her for being an idiot. Also, I would appreciate Dan being able to remember a man’s name from one chapter to the next - it would make it seem like he was actually smart enough to detect things instead of ALWAYS talking about and relying on “intuition” which feels lazy.

Lots of inconsistencies
Revisado: 02-25-23
As another reviewer said- he knew the egg came from his mother - now he doesn’t remember that, and only knows it came from his father and doesn’t know how? That was solved books ago. It seems like there are different authors. Also what is this running theme that almost all “nargornians” hate magic - they run into it almost constantly. None of the rangers make the connection they are training in a magic place using magic runes, potions, staffs and use their own mages? Then they act all afraid and disgusted by magic? It makes no sense. The narrator is amazing and it’s ok to listen to, but their are a lot of inconsistencies. The story doesn’t move forward at all in this book in particular. I hope the characters stop behaving in such naive one dimensional ways. The main character having to reveal everything and keep no secrets from a girl who has told him literally nothing about herself is a bizarre ask. We kissed once- tell me all your secrets or face my wrath lol. At first I thought maybe she’d turn out to be a spy -and was taking advantage of him, but nothing like that happened, it was just a nonsensical- huh? why? I’m also still irritated that his mother didn’t get to kill Uther. It was the whole point of his parents story - and if you’re going to kill it for “reality” then you owe it to readers to have a plausible scenario play out. The author (or authors, or ai 😂) made the choice that someone would kill her right before she killed Uther- and not right after he was dead? Wtf? Then all the characters who only wanted Uther’s head, had him surrounded yet somehow let him escape? No.

The narrator issue is impossible to ignore
Revisado: 01-29-23
To give feedback that isn’t just 100% negative about the narrator - she did ok on the female voices but all the males sounded like robots. They were one dimensional and the pace was waaay too fast. Had to slow to 0.9! Really hard to listen too especially because the previous narrator was so wonderful. I almost couldn’t listen to it at all- poor choice and perhaps unfair to this narrator to put them in this position. I enjoyed this series except the romance issues got tedious- or rather too slow - more problem solving action would be good. I enjoyed the other characters more by this book # - but overall I enjoyed this series a lot

Enjoyable but plot always obvious
Revisado: 01-11-23
I listened to these books, they were diverting but the author always gives away the plot/killer the moment that character is introduced. In every story. I feel she would do better to stick to stories like the one she wrote where the killers were two identical women and it was meant to be known to the reader- and let the reader watch the detective (Dan) figure it out. Or work on making the killers less glaringly obvious to the reader. She is good at creating tension and horror, but hasn’t made an actual who done it yet.
The narrator is very good.
