Historia
Gaius Petrius Ruso is a divorced and down-on-his-luck army doctor who has made the rash decision to seek his fortune in an inclement outpost of the Roman Empire, namely Britannia. After a 36-hour shift at the army hospital, he succumbs to a moment of weakness and rescues an injured slave girl, Tilla, from the hands of her abusive owner. Uneven start but engaging last quarter
Revisado: 01-17-20
Almost gave up on the first half but stuck with it for a tremendous last half. The "Romaness" of the story didn't grab me but the plot twist and development of the two main characters - Russo and Tila - came on strong. The affectation of the female voice is not always appealing otherwise a good narration.

Historia
Something has gone wrong. A group of American bombers armed with nuclear weapons is streaking past the fail-safe point, beyond recall, and no one knows why. Their destination - Moscow. In a bomb shelter beneath the White House, the calm young president turns to his Russian translator and says, "I think we are ready to talk to Premier Kruschchev." Not far away, in the War Room at the Pentagon, the secretary of defense and his aides watch with growing anxiety...

Lacks the Horror and Terror of the movie script
Revisado: 10-15-18
Must be compared to the movie of the same name and is the lesser of the two. First, the reader is clear in tone and diction but lacks in emotion, drama and thought provoking effectiveness. His voice work in representing the Russian Premier Nikita K. sounds too Frenchy to me and as such distracting at some of the critical points. Second, the dialogue in the text is a poor representation of what JFK and NK might have sounded like in such circumstances. Following the dropping of the bombs JFK is concerns about awarding medals and the political consequences of the death of 40 million people. Nikita K. talks about a diplomatic mission. Everything is too flat -- missing the Horror and Terror (HaT) of dropping 8 nuclear weapons on Moscow then NYC. On the upside, if you've seen the movie of the same name, the images, tension and actor portrayals help carry the HaT through the reading. This is an OK audio book.

Historia
At a remote little inn not far from the Kansas homestead of Laura Ingalls Wilder lived the Bender family. These pioneers welcomed unwary visitors with jackrabbit stew and a sledgehammer to the skull. In time, their apple orchard gave up its secrets - a burial ground for their mutilated victims, each stripped of their possessions. The devilish enterprise on “Hell’s Half-Acre” would earn the Bloody Benders an undying place in the annals of American infamy. But it was the mysterious fate of eldest daughter, Kate, that would make them the stuff of mythic campfire prairie tales.

shotgun approach to storytelling

...that gratuitously tried to shock. sympathy to the teller for a gallant though lacking dramatic reading.

Adequate sequel to Conspirata & Imperium
Revisado: 06-02-16
D Rintoul gave a nice performance though lacking in flavor and color. The two previous titles were a lot more engaging. Dictator completes the story without suspense or thrills. It does the job ok.

A good reader but a tedious experience
Revisado: 06-02-16
23 hrs was ay too much for this audiobook.it would be a candidate for abridgement. Did not feel the time or placeof the rising tide. Reading the book may do it justice.
