Not an easy listen
Revisado: 02-08-25
I love the idea here and see it as truly valuable, but did not enjoy the performance. I found it difficult to listen to and wanted it to be over. Great concept though. Having done Duo Lingo for so long I have come to expect better pronunciation and this fell short.

Cover to cover this is worth the read! Helpful and practical for prayer, but even more practical in getting to the basics of faith.

Historia
Nothing in Abigail MacLeod's life as a wife, a mother, and a teacher has prepared her for what she will experience during her summer in Israel. At 42, her life is in chaos, even before she leaves home - her marriage is dissolving before her very eyes, and her faith is in shambles. This pilgrimage to Israel was supposed to be a new beginning for her. But by the end of the first day, she is forced to board an Israeli jetliner in spite of a bomb threat and watches helplessly as a kind, fatherly gentleman she befriended on the plane dies in her arms.

History that moves quickly
Revisado: 07-03-24
Not sure it's the greatest "who done it", but neat story design and historical narrative that's interesting. Reading it at this time with Hamas having attacked Isreal on October 7th and the atrocities Hamas commited gives an understanding of these stories I likely wouldn't have appreciated as much before.

This is one of the best books ever and the reading was superb. An absolute joy. Every single minute. I'm very sad that it is over. The characters are so real, I feel like I've lost a friend.

This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

In The Awakened Brain, psychologist Dr. Lisa Miller shows you how. Weaving her own deeply personal journey of awakening with her groundbreaking research, Dr. Miller’s book reveals that humans are universally equipped with a capacity for spirituality, and that our brains become more resilient and robust as a result of it.

No...this is not a great book.
Revisado: 09-11-22
Regret purchasing this book. Off-putting at best and damaging in many ways. Throughout the book Klune does exactly what his sanctimonious characters are chastising the main character about. His use of the 6 year old anti-Christ is troubling on multiple levels. This is not a book for middle grade children. It's not a book for anyone.

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot

Historia
Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband, Jim, and his four colleagues. Incredibly, prayerfully, Elisabeth took her toddler daughter, snakebite kit, Bible, and journal...and lived in the jungle with the stone-age people who killed her husband. In this authorized biography, Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history.

Very Thought Provoking
Revisado: 07-06-22
Shabshab's narration was a distraction at times, but not enough to limit the value of the book. Vaughn' did a great job of conveying Elizabeth's evolution as a person and more importantly in her faith. It's interesting how self-serving she and Jim look to have been and a good reminder for us all...her processing of these events and decisions was so powerful and one of the best interpretations of "why" ever. Much to be learned here.

Historia
Learn to see God's remarkable works in the everyday ordinary of your life. Your remarkable life is happening right here, right now. You may not be able to see it - your life may seem predictable and your work insignificant until you look at your life as Frederick Buechner does. Named "the father of today's spiritual memoir movement" by Christianity Today, Frederick Buechner reveals how to stop, look, and listen to your life. He reflects on how both art and faith teach us how to pay attention to the remarkableness right in front of us, to watch for the greatness in the ordinary.

Historia
Wharton's most erotic and lyrical novel, Summer explores a daring theme for 1917, a woman's awakening to her sexuality. Eighteen-year-old Charity Royall lives in the small town of North Dormer, ignorant of desire until the arrival of architect Lucius Harney. Like the succulent summer landscape in the Berkshires around them, Charity's romance is lush and picturesque, but its consequences are harsh and real.

Revisado: 06-12-22
This is a really great story on many levels. It's mostly sad. Simple and yet profound. Edith Wharton beautifully describes everything from trees and mountains to emotions and conditions of the heart, but in a way that isn't overdone at all. I highly recommend it.
