Historia
What if reluctant hero Ikari Shinji had saved the world? Now, at seventeen years old, he is the defacto leader of the EVA team. Under the leadership of Commander Katsuragi Misato, the Evangelion suits have been updated with advanced designs and powers, in preparation for the possible return of the monstrous Angels. Four copies of Ayanami Rei have been tasked with operating a global anti-Angel search-and-destroy program. But when one of these clones goes rogue, it’s up to Shinji to stop her.

This should have been the new movies
Revisado: 02-21-24
Great story and follow up to the original series. Characters feel like older more mature versions of their former selves. If you like the Rebuild movies, Anima actually covers and explains some of the unexplained portions of those movies as well. Anima sits nicely between both works though I would have rather seen this animated on the big screen.
Ms. Grant does an outstanding job and really adds authenticity to the production. I worried at first that the whole book would just sound like Asuka giving her side of the story but should have had more faith in one of the greatest VAs working. She gives life to every character that reflects how they were in NGE that feels authentic. Her take on Misato really shines. And of course when Asuka speaks, it really highlights her talent as you immediately think, “Ah now that’s Asuka”. There’s a reason her version of the character is so beloved.
Hopefully all the Anima books make it to audio format because this is an excellent production.

Historia
Sagara Sousuke isn't your typical high school student. He reads military enthusiast magazines; he responds to questions with "affirmative;" he brings grenades to school in his bag. Though everyone at school takes him for a hopeless military geek, Chidori Kaname thinks there might be something more to him. When their plane is hijacked in the middle of a field trip, Kaname's instincts will prove correct: Sousuke is an elite, mech-piloting mercenary... and he's here to protect her!

Gives a lot more insight to characters
Revisado: 12-14-23
Like probably everyone I read this being a huge fan of the anime. As one would expect the book goes into more detail but I was surprised to see that events that happen way later are foreshadowed early on and character motivations are made much clearer. Excellent performance as well.

Historia
There's a girl at their school who is always ill. She routinely arrives late, leaves early, or doesn't show up at all, and skips gym as a matter of course. She's pretty, and the boys take to whispering that she's a cloistered princess. As the self-described worst loser in her class soon finds out, they just don't know what a monster she is.

Just an absolutely beautiful story.
Revisado: 10-20-23
Like probably every western fan I was exposed to this story from the anime which I hold as one of my favorite of all time. The novel is even better. I’ve always loved how the series feels like the Epilogue to a story we didn’t see (even if we do eventually see it). Having Senjogahara and more so Mayoi’s story as the foundation is sets the perfect tone for who these characters are and the relationships they build. The ending of this novel is so fulfilling, it’s superbly acted out by the cast, and a wonderful Afterword by the author make this whole production one of the best audio experience I’ve had the pleasure of listening to. I wish all the novels were on audiobook. High recommend.

Unlikable characters ruin a decent story
Revisado: 08-19-21
There just isn't a single relatable character in this book. The women are all flawless (or at least you can tell the author thinks they are) and the men are all cartoon toxic masculinity stereotypes. Which would be fine if the author was trying to say something about genre scifi or if this was a parody but it is clearly just their worldview reflected. It would also be fine if the characterization of these characters, no matter how unrealistic, actually mattered, but everything was thrown out in the last chapter. Ileaf, the only real sympathetic character (until that is soon destroyed as well), after thinking the whole book how the only thing that matters to her are her kids, doesn't care one bit when Reina kills her kids. Although her husband was an abusive madman, it was Reina who killed her children. One of them 10 years old, and faces no repercussions. It's disgusting. Again, if the narrative had established all the clones would grow up to be like their father, maybe there would be some justification for killing them, but it was firmly established they had their own minds and some even turned against their father. Didn't matter, they were clones of a rapist so I guess their murder is justified??? I don't get it.
Ileaf should have poisoned Reina along with whatever that cartoon villian's name was. That would have been a good ending. But the fact she walks away blameless is absolutely insulting and disguising. Nothing Reina experienced justifies her being a child murderer. And again, Iileaf just all of a sudden claiming they weren't really her kids flies directly in the face of what she had been thinking a few chapters previous. "Well Reina, you are a badass woman, so I really don't care you killed my children! Let's go on adventures together!"
