Little Me couldn’t deal
Revisado: 01-11-24
The author uses terms she hasn’t defined until later chapters. The most annoying is “little me,” the wounded child who was traumatized in youth, leading to all your relationship problems. Little Me is the subject of this book, so get used to hearing that a thousand times. I couldn’t do it.
The author has a soothing voice, which may help with your anxiety. It made me want to fall asleep.

Historia
For nearly four decades, David Sedaris has faithfully kept a diary in which he records his thoughts and observations on the odd and funny events he witnesses. Anyone who has attended a live Sedaris event knows that his diary readings are often among the most joyful parts of the evening. But never before have they been available in print. Now, in Theft by Finding, Sedaris brings us his favorite entries. From deeply poignant to laugh-out-loud funny, these selections reveal with new intimacy a man longtime fans only think they know.

Just an hour or so in
Revisado: 06-08-17
This is a preliminary impression. I really enjoy David Sedaris' works, but I'm finding that the slightly redacted content here that comprise the raw journal entries (the bulk of the content so far) just aren't as engaging as his usual recipe of reflecting on life with humor and dissecting surgically with the sharp implements of irony and sarcasm.
I think the big elements of the success of David's recent writing is the alternately self deprecating and humorously egotistical musings, and the scathing wit he salts his stories with to delicious satirical and often whimsical effect. That's largely missing so far, but as I said I'm just an hour in.

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), credited as the inspiration for radio, robots, and even radar, has been called the patron saint of modern electricity. Based on original material and previously unavailable documents, this acclaimed book is the definitive biography of the man considered by many to be the founding father of modern electrical technology.

Brilliance made boring
Revisado: 01-23-14
Would you try another book from Marc J. Seifer and/or Simon Prebble?
No
What could Marc J. Seifer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
This book needed some relentless editing.
What character would you cut from Wizard?
this book definitely needs to be cut about 30%. I didn't finish it.
Any additional comments?
Somehow this book manages to make an interesting character seem boring. Patent disputes, details about the generator, commutators and brushes. Tesla shines as a young engineer. Tesla goes into business for himself. Tesla works too hard. Tesla amazes people with high voltage. Tesla gets invited to parties. Tesla doesn't get due credit for inventions.

Historia
In 1895, when Captain Joshua Slocum completed the first solo circumnavigation on his 37-foot sloop, the Spray, no one believed it could be done. This firsthand account of Captain Slocum's remarkable voyage - 3 years and 46,000 miles - is full of adventures, dangers, and triumphs. Stormy seas, hostile natives, Moorish pirates, and even a bizarre meeting with President Paul Kruger of the Transvaal, who insisted that Slocum could never have sailed "around the world," since everyone with the meanest intelligence knew the world was flat, make up the fabric of the most wonderful travelogue of all.

Interesting read but poorly recorded
Revisado: 12-04-07
There were two versions of this recording on Audible. I thought this narrator had more of the vocal character of an old sea dog, so I paid more for this particular version.
It was well read, but the audio quality leaves something to be desired. The dynamics are off, and it sounds like audio tape.
The story itself is interesting and well worth the time.
