So confused!
Revisado: 09-25-20
I hate to give a bad review that also reflects poorly on the author as well as the other narrator but the narrator for one of the protagonists is one of the worst I’ve ever attempted to get past but despite my extensive efforts, I just can’t!! It’s unfortunate because this could probably be a decent book but I honestly have no idea what’s going on because I can’t hear anything beyond her absolutely horrible robotic tone! Honestly, I think Siri could do better!!

I have absolutely no idea what I’ve been listening to since about 30mins in! There are two types of horror the genuine, keep you on the edge of your seat, suspenseful/scary type of horror..or this type of “horror” that should actually have it’s own genre title, as simply “gore”..bc to make up for the serious lack of any aspect of scary/thriller, the story is just one endless gory description after another to fill the time. So much so, that you forget or don’t even know what is being described anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a dramatically weak stomach or a problem handling gore..my problem is boredom to the point where what I’m listening to just becomes background noise. I wish exchanging books was a more convenient process because I would definitely be exchanging this one!

Historia
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside - the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped.

Ugghhh!!!!!!
Revisado: 09-10-20
I was hoping this book would be the one to put an end to my record breaking dry spell of boring, non suspenseful books but unfortunately not! With so many titles in the mystery/thriller genre, one would think it would be the other way around..where only 1 out of 10 purchases would be a fail as opposed to 9 out of 10!! Let me preface by saying that I’m not discounting the significance of Dementia by any means & maybe if I was looking for a fictional plot line describing the experiences of battling dementia, this would be much more fitting but I wasn’t, I wanted a suspenseful mystery that kept my attention instead I’m 4 hours in & all I’ve heard is about 10mins of somewhat interesting story line while the rest has been the complete opposite! The protagonist’s overly dramatic personality drives me crazy & actually takes away from any possibility of suspense, the plot line is so predictable it’s boring & the repetitiveness is beyond excessive..it’s literally used in every single scenario making it extremely difficult to keep listening! So with that said..I guess I’m back to searching for something that’s actually enjoyable!! 🙄

Now this is what you call suspense/thriller/mystery!! I am definitely an extreme fan of this genre, in fact it’s the only one I listen to & I’m constantly on the hunt for a book like “All his pretty girls” but in my opinion, this is a first of its kind! With that said, there are other suspenseful thrillers that I’ve really enjoyed but I can honestly say that this is the first one that not only had me immediately hooked, it never fell flat..not even for a minute & there were moments where I was literally on the edge of my seat! I actually listened to it twice & the second time was just as good as the first I didn’t want it to end! I’m so excited to know that there is a part two, I’m hoping the audiobook doesn’t take long to be released..I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE TOYBOX!!

😒
Revisado: 06-23-20
I really enjoyed the first book I listened to by Marin Montgomery called “what we forgot to bury” so I had much higher hopes for this one but it definitely hasn’t met my expectations, to say the least. The narrator for Allegra’s character (one of the two girls to be kidnapped in this story), completely ruins the story for me, she’s not necessarily bad narrator but she’s absolutely not fit for this genre, she sounds like she would be perfect for YA novels but nothing about her tone or style is suspenseful..that combined with the obnoxious qualities of Allegra’s character make it almost impossible to focus on what is actually happening in the story!

A fresh start. That's what Becca hoped the move from New York to Redemption, Wisconsin would be for her troubled family. A way to get her crumbling marriage back on track, and to bond with her difficult 16-year-old stepdaughter. But instead of a new beginning, Becca is thrust into a mysterious past she barely remembers. A past that includes the complications of interacting with her old teenage crush, Daniel, as well as living in her aunt's old house. A house with a violent past. A house the locals swear is haunted.

I’m so excited to know that this is not a standalone book but instead a series, I hope that the other two books are released on audible ASAP!! The story was amazing, 13 hours flew by & I found myself checking the remaining time, hoping for it to be longer then I suspected! I can not wait to listen to the rest of this series! I also can’t end this review without acknowledging the narrator, January LaVoy is absolutely incredible, I can’t imagine a better delivery of this book!! I will absolutely be on the lookout for the rest of the series!! Ps..do yourself a favor & continue listening beyond the credits, to “Helen’s Diary”

Definitely fooled me
Revisado: 05-16-20
The description of this book is extremely misleading, in my opinion. I’m a total suspense/thriller/horror junkie & admittedly, difficult to please!
Based on the summary/sample, this book had so much more potential, then it ultimately delivered!
The story starts off strong, Juliette is on an isolated highway in the middle of the night, terrified of being found before reaching her destination, she’s overly paranoid & on edge. Suddenly a pair of headlights come into view of her rear view mirror & appear to be approaching at a high rate of speed, soon enough, it is clear that this person is after her!
I don’t want to give any spoilers beyond what is already described in the summary but I was all in, up to this point, in my opinion, this was the perfect set up for a thrilling plot but the author took a much different path then I anticipated. Overall this was still good it just wasn’t great! The narrator, definitely deserves to be acknowledged, she was a perfect choice for this book!!

Historia
A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting.... Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

I’m far from an author but...
Revisado: 05-16-20
I can’t help but wonder where so many authors of this genre go wrong..they have a storyline with so much potential & depending on their execution, it can either be an absolute hit with most fans of this genre, fall a bit short or be a total fail & more often then not it’s one of the latter two which is so disappointing. I’m not saying that The Shuddering is a fail but I do feel as though the fear factor & suspense was greatly watered down by the unnecessary drawn out drama; which I appreciate to a certain extent..enough to get to know & relate to the characters but not excessive! So overall this was ok, it had a few suspenseful moments but like most reviewers stated, it didn’t meet its full potential.
