Historia
Follow an acclaimed archaeologist to unearth the roots of Jesus' actions and teachings within the traditions and beliefs of ancient Judaism. These fascinating 24 lectures approach the subject of Jesus from a historical, rather than scriptural, perspective; one rooted in ancient texts and archaeological discoveries. This investigation reveals hidden insights into how the tumultuous events of early Jewish history shaped an individual - and a movement - whose legacy endures to this day.

The title is misleading.
Revisado: 04-22-25
There is not much discussion about Jesus in this series. It is mostly just Jewish history. At least a third or more is Jewish history after the time of Jesus, It was still worth a listen.

The Lords of Creation rule the Nine Worlds through its control of the ultra-advanced technology that has permitted the colonization of the entire solar System. More gods than men, the Lords of Creation have cheated Death itself. But although they rule the solar system with their god-like scientific knowledge, there are even more powerful forces to be feared lurking out in the dark depths of space. And when an unthinkably terrible enemy that rules a vast network of dead stars and planets comes to the Nine Worlds, it falls to them to stop it, though entire worlds may perish.

weird and not interesting
Revisado: 02-11-25
The first book reminds me a little bit of The Martian by Andy Weir. Weir's character uses his ingenuity and knowledge of actual science and engineering to survive, The Martian book is interesting. The Superluminary book, on the other hand, is filled with scientific gibberish used by the author to "explain" how the characters wield their god-like powers. And I mean truly god-like powers. Needlessly tedious...and not at all interesting.

Historia
For a long time, scientists have wondered how life has emerged from inanimate chemistry, and whether Earth is the only place where it exists. Charles Darwin speculated about life on Earth beginning in a warm little pond. Some of his contemporaries believed that life existed on Mars. It once seemed inevitable that the truth would be known by now. It is not. For more than a century, the origins and extent of life have remained shrouded in mystery. But, as Mario Livio and Jack Szostak reveal in Is Earth Exceptional?, the veil is finally lifting.

Last quarter of the book is pure science fiction.

The first 3/4 of the book is good science, but the authors lose credibility with the remainder.

slow and confusing at first but worth it.
Revisado: 10-12-24
The first 2/3rds of the book are shuffled in time. This is a complicated story. It would have been easier to follow if it weren't presented that way. Still, it is beautifully written and beautifully narrated.

Ends with cliffhanger. RUDE!!!
Revisado: 08-02-24
The author uses the oldest ploy in the book to get you to buy the next installment in the series. The book ends with a cliffhanger. If you write a good story with good characters, then there's a good chance I will get the next book in the series. That should be enough. Don't end in a cliffhanger. It's just plain RUDE.

I listened to it, but I really don't know what the plot was. I'm not even sure there was a plot. It was well written. That is, it sounds nice when you listen to it. There is good character development. I just don't know what it was about. It seemed like a bunch of connected short stories based on a common character and a common theme,

Not really a mystery novel
Revisado: 03-03-24
I have listened to 2 books in this series. (I bought these as a 2 for 1.) They purport to be mysteries, but there are no real clues. The reader doesn't feel like they are in on solving the crime. Indeed, the murderer was not even a character until the solution was given. And then, the solution only came after the investigator was given some information in an interview that the reader didn't even get listen in on.

Extremely well written but "meh" story.
Revisado: 02-07-23
I think Scarrow's writing is top notch. It stands out way above most of the books in my library. But the story is just okay, nothing special. I would gladly buy more of his books if I knew which ones had good stories.

Historia
Whether pondering black holes or predicting discoveries at CERN, physicists believe the best theories are beautiful, natural, and elegant, and this standard separates popular theories from disposable ones. This is why, Sabine Hossenfelder argues, we have not seen a major breakthrough in the foundations of physics for more than four decades. The belief in beauty has become so dogmatic that it now conflicts with scientific objectivity: Observation has been unable to confirm mindboggling theories, like supersymmetry or grand unification, invented by physicists based on aesthetic criteria.

Should have been an essay, not a book...
Revisado: 08-31-22
First let me say that I agree with Dr. Hossenfelder's thinking. Her arguments are well stated. But after awhile, the book just repeats itself. Luckily, I bought it in a 2 for 1 sale, so I don't feel like I lost anything. I cannot recommend spending an entire credit on this book.

I couldn't finish this. Too much talk of rape...
Revisado: 02-23-22
I wanted to like this book, but the main character keeps being threatened with rape. This begins at age 8 and again at age 12. That's just too much for me.
