Historia
In this novella set in the World of the Five Gods and four years after the events in Penric's Demon, Penric is a divine of the Bastard's Order as well as a sorcerer and scholar, living in the palace where the Princess-Archdivine holds court. His scholarly work is interrupted when the Archdivine agrees to send Penric, in his role as sorcerer, to accompany a "Locator" of the Father's Order, assigned to capture Inglis, a runaway shaman charged with the murder of his best friend.

A fun braided three POV addition to the Penrith and Desdemina series
Revisado: 01-25-25
It was interesting to see the story from different perspectives. Seeing the characters from both the “inside” and “outside.” Some deft storytelling lining up the chapters and events with the viewpoint rotation.

Rock band Wanderlust is about to hit it big, guitarist Dave Kendall is sure of that. They're playing better venues, in front of bigger crowds - and the people showing up at the after parties are increasingly good-looking and cool. Some even radiate power, like "Master" Jeffries, the tall, saturnine man who seems to have some sort of weird control over Dave's fellow bandmates.

The best of the Diane Tregard series
Revisado: 11-20-24
One fun thing is 3 different kinds of vampires in the story, and a fourth in the recent past impacting the story. Written in a way that makes it plausible that all these kinds of vampire would interact.
What really makes this story the best of the series is that Diane is the most vulnerable at this point in her character development. Still kicking butt, and also more vulnerable and needing her allies in very basic ways as well as working together to identify and take on the big bad.

Historia
In 1929, archeologists began draining Lake Nemi in search of the mysterious ships that have been glimpsed beneath its waters since the reign of Claudius. What they awakened had been drowned for 2,000 years. For a very good reason. Veteran aviator Lewis Segura has been drifting since the Great War ended, fetched up at last at the small company run by fellow veterans and pilots Alma Gilchrist and Mitchell Sorley, assisted by their old friend Dr. Jerry Ballard, an archeologist who lost his career when he lost part of his leg.

I got the impression the authors had a lot of fun writing it and the historical world building was excellent. Interesting characters and relationships between them.

Historia
Oliver was a very minor mage. His familiar reminded him of this several times a day. He only knew three spells, and one of them was to control his allergy to armadillo dander. His attempts to summon elementals resulted in nosebleeds, and there is nothing more embarrassing than having your elemental leave the circle to get you a tissue, pat you comfortingly, and then disappear in a puff of magic.

Historia
The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls. And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out. We saved everyone. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong.

A brilliant take in the suffer child problem
Revisado: 10-06-22
Excellent cap to a wonderful series. Pulls together a few Chekhovs left from previous books as a new layer is added to the story. Love love love the ending, and appreciate that it is leavened w enough “people being people” to avoid being overly sentimental, idealistic, and unrealistic. Definitely recommend.

Excellent—but incomplete
Revisado: 05-18-21
I loved this adaptation of tThe Sandman. It brought back the art of the original to my minds eye, and did an admirable job of translating a meadium based on a combination of words and art into an audio play. Excellent for fans and newcomers. I’m sad to realize that this is incomplete, and look forward to getting part 2 when I can.

OMG the sexism
Revisado: 04-18-21
The basic premise was amusing, and the start suggested a light romp through LitRPG-landia. But eventually the sexism got way too thick, the deus-ex-GM got too frequent (sudden buffs out of nowhere that negated the bad choices the player made, and the basis for the other players inflated view of the MC too thin...

This book stands up to re-reading, both a solid satisfying story in its own right and in laying the foundations for an amazing series (without sacrificing the narrative integrity of the book at hand).
