Historia
For a moment, things seemed to be under control for Breq, the soldier who used to be a warship. Then a search of Athoek Station's slums turns up someone who shouldn't exist, and a messenger from the mysterious Presger empire arrives, as does Breq's enemy, the divided and quite possibly insane Anaander Mianaai—ruler of an empire at war with itself. Breq refuses to flee with her ship and crew, because that would leave the people of Athoek in terrible danger. The odds aren't good, but that's never stopped her before.

So boring
Revisado: 03-01-19
Lots of psychoanalysis and medicating discomfort. Lots of people barely in control of their emotions. Lots of tea, tea sets, and dishes. A brief mention of an AI singularity being unleashed. Skip this book if you like space opera where something happens.

Historia
In the vein of classic authors such as Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke, Nathan Arkwright is a seminal author of the 20th century. At the end of his life he becomes reclusive and cantankerous, refusing to appear before or interact with his legion of fans. Little does anyone know, Nathan is putting into motion his true timeless legacy. Convinced that humanity cannot survive on Earth, his Arkwright Foundation dedicates itself to creating a colony on an earthlike planet several light-years distant.

Simplistic storyline with way too much melodrama

Really good plausible story
Revisado: 11-04-16
This book embraced reality and hoped for a better future. People were still people with all the flaws and the speed of light was never broken.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Good story with some annoying parts
Revisado: 12-27-11
What did you like best about Hounded? What did you like least?
I loved the mix of all mythologies together. Essentially they're all true except many have been mis-remembered over time. Also a re-imagined druid main character was something new to me.
The worst part of the book, and it is peppered throughout the entire thing, is his stupid dog. It is a cross between Jarjar Binks and Tex Avery's Willoughby the dog though smarter than both, equally annoying. Always ready to punctuate every scene with his perspective on what just happened. Usually misunderstanding or joking about it. So every somewhat serious thing was either followed by stupidity, a (usually bad) joke, or a Scrappy-Doo style aggression.
My wife and I listened to this while driving around to various relatives for Christmas. Audible is great for this BTW. We kept groaning and looking at each other or replacing Aticus' response to the dog with our own
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes
Could you see Hounded being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes. Get a few teenie bopper heart throbs and crank up the special effects. Go full Twilight on this one and replace vampires with druids and really every mythology ever.
Any additional comments?
The story was entertaining and we made it through the whole thing. That damn dog really ruined a good story.
