Historia
Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

Breathy reading
Revisado: 05-22-12
What did you like best about The Gifts of Imperfection? What did you like least?
I like all the messages but would have preferred to listen to the author, Brene Brown. This narrator is annoying as you can hear her every breath.
Would you recommend The Gifts of Imperfection to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, but not this version
What didn’t you like about Lauren Fortgang’s performance?
You can hear her intake of breath consistently throughout the reading and it is really distracting.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No

Historia
Portia de Rossi weighed only 82 pounds when she collapsed on the set of the Hollywood film in which she was playing her first leading role. This should have been the culmination of all her years of hard work - first as a child model in Australia, then as a cast member of one of the hottest shows on American television. On the outside she was thin and blond, glamorous and successful. On the inside, she was literally dying.

Would you ever listen to anything by Portia De Rossi again?
Probably not!
What three words best describe Portia De Rossi’s voice?
Insincere, annoying, irritating
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Would you listen to Rescue again? Why?
I loved this book. It took me a couple of chapters to embrace the accents of the characters but I'm Australian! Once I was hooked I just wanted to listen to the whole book and had to strictly limit my listening time as I was on holidays and didn't want to finish too quickly!
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the characters and just thought the story was a bit different!
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
I thought the voice narration was irritating at first but after chapter 2 I really loved them!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It did make me cry
Any additional comments?
Would definitely recommend
