Historia
Davik of Darkshire is one of the last Magebreakers who survived the Summoner War. In that brutal conflict, expendable conscripts were engraved with runes of resistance and hardiness, turning them into the scourge of warcasters. Using his augmentation to forge a storied career, he has battled through epic adventures, ambushes, and dungeons for the last decade.

Truly a surprise, and one of the best ones I've ever experienced. This book was fun, emotional , and gave me a story that wouldn't let me go. Can't wait to start book 2.

Historia
Possibly it's not to save a pair of drowning girls, not go 'viral' on social media and certainly not to let the local police take your passport, trapping you on a small 'party' island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. But Steve isn't the average guy, he's ex-military, ex-enforcer and ex-human. He's a one man nanite fuelled nightmare for those that cross the line, and he's decided that its time to clean up his act. He's going to make up for the things he's done, and save 'the little guys'.

Adults are on here complaining about there being adult situations in a book meant for ADULTS. I fell in love with this series, mainly because of the writing and the personalities of the characters. MC is fun, and acts like a dude who is confused and out of his depth. And, Ingrid is cute. Leave her alone.

Great additions.

I already listened to this book, but the added context with the prologue and the first 7 chapters are a welcome addition. Definitely one of my favorite series out there, and I'm excited to keep following Boyd's story.

When i saw a new book in one of my favorite series I got excited
when I saw it was all Correia, no guest writer this time I got super excited
Oliver Wyman always nails it in this series, I don't think there's a better narrator out there. The story was incredible and leaves you ready for more, and with an ending like that you know there's more excitement to come. If you were a little disappointed with Siege and Guardians, leave your doubts behind for this one.
Correia brings his A game and breathes his signature life and energy back to the series.

Action packed with fun engaging characters
Revisado: 09-08-21
This book got me hooked on Correia’s writing style and this entire series. I’ll admit I’m quite the gun nut and Correia’s detail in that arena tickled my fancy tremendously, but that’s far from the best this series has to offer. There’s a lot of passion you can feel in his character and world building, and this book really takes the time to not only introduce us to our cast in great detail, but really make you love and understand the band of Monster Hunters you’re following. Owen Pitt’s goofy nature and inability to not get his butt kicked by every monster he goes up against is always fun. You know he wins in the end, but it’s nice to feel all the struggles and pain he has to endure to get to the payoff, win the day and secure that bounty. Scarred, bloody, and always sore he trudges on and kicks evils fangs in. He has a twisted ability to be cocky, pessimistic, brave, and a just bit dense for a guy with a genius level IQ that just make him into an interesting protagonist with a lot more depth than you’d expect of you just looked at the cover. The icing on the cake is Oliver Wyman’s delivery. Reading these books yourself is still incredibly enjoyable but once Wyman brings these characters and their world to life you’d be hard pressed not to read the books in his voices afterwards, and he only gets better as the series progresses. Every character has their own unique voice and tone that lets you know who is talking without even needing to be told. One of my top recommendations for my friends who also enjoy audiobooks, even if they aren’t the gun nut I am, I still think there’s a lot to enjoy

A sad last entry in an otherwise fantasy series
Revisado: 09-08-21
The story itself isn’t really as bad as others have criticized it, but it’s very clear the new writer Hoyt had a tremendous influence on well established characters behavior. I wouldn’t say she butchered Julie, but she kind took a little of the soul out of our badass sniper warrior. Sure it was a bit more humanizing, at first, to see her dealing with being a mom and being out of the hunting game for 6 months, however you’d think that after trampling through Europe killing everything in her path to find her kid she’d start feeling more confident and back to her old self. We see small amounts of that here and there which felt like influence from Correia. Overall, if I was simply reading this book I’d give it a solid 3
However, I’m listening to this book and that’s where the experience completely falls apart. 5 books prior to this we’ve had the absolutely astounding Oliver Wyman who really brought a lot of life to every single character. It was like he really enjoyed the story and the characters he portrayed. Bailey Carr seemed content to simply read what was in front of her. Her voice is absolutely fine for Julie, but her delivery can best be described as flat, she never really sells much for emotions and she butchers a lot of the other characters. Lastly, and frankly most egregiously is her constant butchering of names and words that have been well established across multiple books. It wouldn’t have taken much for her to spend just a little bit of time either asking someone who knew or better yet going back and listening to the previous books to not only get a feel for the characters she’d be portraying, the overall tone and feel of the series, and to get a grip on the more difficult names and words she’d be reading. By far my least favorite entry into the series, though I’ll admit I was happy to finally cave in and buy it if only for the resolution of knowing I finally finished the last book.

Historia
When Monster Hunter International's top hunter, Owen Zastava Pitt, was given a tip about some hunters who had gone missing in action, he didn't realize their rescue mission would snowball into the single biggest operation in MHI's history. Their men are being held prisoner in a horrific nightmare dimension, and the only way to reach them is through the radioactive ruins of a monster-infested war zone. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's also the home base of the powerful creature behind the devastating attacks on the Last Dragon and Copper Lake.

An unfitting end for the series
Revisado: 05-16-21
But that’s the best we’re gonna get I suppose since the author apparently wrote himself out of interest with the series. I can’t find much in the way of good reviews for the next boom Guardians which apparently butchers all we’ve come to love in the series because another writer was brought on to end it. Very disappointing when this happens, but overall books 1-6 were certainly a lot of fun and entertainment so I got my money’s worth there, won’t be spending more on something that can’t live up.
As for Siege itself, it wasn’t quite as action packed but we got a lot of good emotional moments and deeper understanding with characters that made up for it. We got a large scale invasion of kicka** hunters that tapered off into a much slower story once we entered the nightmare realm for the rescue mission. I was looking forward to a lot more from the big fight and was a bit dejected for the last 1/4th of the story. I can see why there were a lot of complaints, especially since obviously the writer was getting tired of the series yet still saw fit to set up for a lot more to come that he would never bring us. Oh well, I’ll always have the first 4 books to enjoy thoroughly from beginning to end, and nothing can last forever
