Not for Me
Revisado: 10-05-23
There were many times when the story action, rather like a reality TV show, moved along in a nasty way. Despite its length, the plot and characters were flat. I don't think I'll continue with this series.

Historia
Chicago may be the city of broad shoulders, but its political law is "Pay to Play." Money changes hands in the middle of the night, and by morning, buildings and parks are replaced by billion-dollar projects. Chicago PI V. I. Warshawski gets pulled into one of these clandestine deals through her impetuous goddaughter, Bernie Fouchard. Bernie tries to rescue Lydia Zamir, a famed singer-songwriter now living on the streets; Zamir’s life fell apart when her lover was murdered next to her in a mass shooting at an outdoor concert.

A Letdown
Revisado: 04-28-20
I usually enjoy most of Sara Paretsky's V I Warshawski audio books. This one is also narrated by my favorite V I narrator, Susan Ericksen. Both let me down this time, sorry to say! The story is too much like previous tales, although for some listeners this may be comfortable. Perhaps the author is getting tired of this series or she felt pressured to get this one done. It bothers me also that no one has advised Ericksen on how to pronounce the names of some well-known Chicago streets in the distinctive Chicago way after all the stories she has read in this series. With all this said, I will probably listen to it again, because I really like the strong female characters, both naughty and nice, that Paretsky presents in the series and, as I said, Ericksen is my favorite voice of VI Warshawski.

Historia
In Dark Towers, award-winning journalist David Enrich reveals the truth about Deutsche Bank and its epic path of devastation. Tracing the bank's history back to its propping up of a default-prone American developer in the 1880s, helping the Nazis build Auschwitz, and wooing Eastern Bloc authoritarians, he shows how in the 1990s, via a succession of hard-charging executives, Deutsche made a fateful decision to pursue Wall Street riches, often at the expense of ethics and the law.

Great Content Needing a better Reader
Revisado: 02-29-20
As others before me have said, the content is interesting and quite dense, but the reader is rather dull and slow. I wish the author himself had recorded this book! I solved the issue of the slow reading by increasing the speed, which made a big difference. Overall, though, I really recommend this book.
