This was a really great listen. So much so, I need to buy the print copy so my kids can reference it when they get older. I loved KB’s perspective most of all. I’m not taking everything written/said at face value - I wouldn’t dare call him a liar - but his words and perspective make me want to know more and follow his breadcrumbs to my own version of the truth. Well done, Sir! // Recommended

Very Cool Story

First, I’m really enjoying these ret-con origin stories. Second, this larger series of DCU stories is very fun. Doesn’t sound like they’ll blend into a team up, but I still appreciate the flow. And third, this Cat story made me appreciate her position in the DCU even more. The relationship twist was interesting as well, much different from the status quo. I like all of it; the leopards, the league, the allies. Really great story. // Recommended!!!

Not Bad, Not Great

The first half was better than the second half. The second half sounds more like excerpts from the authors journal than an examination of the end of days. Nevertheless, his insight was familiar.

Great Introduction; Strange Story

First and most importantly, I gave this book/story 5 stars. That’s all that really matters. Second, I want to hear, see, and read more from LaValle. Although this isn’t his first work, it was the first I was exposed to and I’m all in. So much so, I’ve created a “collection” folder for his works and I’m eager to fill it. Finally, TBH, I started listening because of the tv show. I wanted to make sense of what I was seeing. It’s clearer now, but I don’t know how the tv show-if it returns-will conclude the story. The “second half” gets pretty wild. Regardless, I’ll be there for it if or when it airs. // Recommended.

More of the Greatness I Expected

GJB exposes all the holes in your self-perception. He destroys you with his authenticity but he immediately helps you clean up the mess, rebuild, and re-present yourself to the world as a well adjusted human being. Can’t find that anywhere else.

Impressive

I’m not a “true” DCU fan but this story, her story, was very entertaining. Took me longer than I’d have liked to complete it, but not because of the narrator or the pacing of the storyline. There are a few threads I’d like to hear tied up (i.e. Jason) but the ending was satisfying. // RECOMMENDED

Listen, Listen, and Listen Again

Oh man! I had this book on my wishlist for a few months. TBH, I finally bought after a fight with my wife about a recurring topic: me and my inability to carry my share of the weight in our marriage and our married life. In short, she told me to do exactly what this title demands. If that’s not a foot stomp, nothing is. If I cried, this book would make me cry. I can see and feel where I’ve gone wrong. The comfort traps I keep falling into. All the excuses. All the somedays turning into nevers; until she (rightfully) starts in on me and I feel bad and the wheel keeps spinning. I keep praying for God to make me better. IDK if this is was the answer to that prayer, but I’ll keep listening until that answer manifests. Time to break the wheel. RECOMMENDED

Surprisingly Satisfying

I was hesitant to buy the Omnibus but I’m glad I did. It’s hard to imagine that civilization can fail and fall and rise again over the span of a “summer vacation,” but it did. The subsequent 3yr and 10yr jumps felt like strange warnings that should be applied to the real world. Bottom line, the story was interesting enough, but the ending is making me think about my reality. Recommended. (As for the reader, he was ok. Not extremely versatile when switching his voice from male to female, young to old, or caucasian to minority, but it worked well enough. He did a good job, nonetheless.)

Good Story

Took me a few starts and stops but I finally finished this performance. Good stuff. Great cast. My only criticism is that I wanted to hear more about Kate’s time in prison, but I guess that’ll have to wait for the trilogy. Recommended.
