In The Land: Predators, the Mist Village has harnessed its power. With core buildings, professional fighters, and now their own dungeon, the settlement is primed to grow into a kingdom of true power and magic. The path to power has not been without risk, however. The MistVillage has been noticed. Evil nobles from the Kingdom of Law, bloodthirsty goblins from the Serrated Mountains, an undead lord with a penchant for human sacrifice, and fanatical kobolds from the Depths all plot the village's destruction.

Historia
Czechoslovakia, 1935: Viktor Kosárek, a newly trained psychiatrist who studied under Carl Jung, arrives at the infamous Hrad Orlu Asylum for the Criminally Insane. The facility is located in a medieval mountaintop castle surrounded by forests, on a site that is well known for concealing dark secrets going back many centuries. The asylum houses six inmates - the country's most treacherous killers - known to the terrified public as the Devil's Six. Viktor intends to use a new medical technique to prove that these patients share a common archetype of evil, a phenomenon he calls The Devil Aspect.

Historia
Set against the backdrop of the Age of Exploration, Black Flags, Blue Waters reveals the dramatic and surprising history of American piracy's "Golden Age" when lawless pirates plied the coastal waters of North America and beyond. Best-selling author Eric Jay Dolin illustrates how American colonists at first supported these outrageous pirates in an early display of solidarity against the Crown, and then violently opposed them. Upending popular misconceptions and cartoonish stereotypes, Dolin provides this wholly original account of these seafaring outlaws.

This is the book I was holding out for
Revisado: 02-28-23
Book 1: All back story. It could have been trimmed down by 75%.
Book 2: much better pacing. Still a bit long and banter in EVERY interaction.
Book 3: this is where it finally all came together. I’m glad I made it through the first two books ( I almost gave up). Book 3 was a good one!

Historia
The Books of Blood combine the ordinary with the extraordinary while radiating the eroticism that has become Barker's signature. Weaving tales of the everyday world transformed into an unrecognizable place, where reason no longer exists and logic ceases to explain the workings of the universe, Clive Barker provides the stuff of nightmares in packages too tantalizing to resist.

I find his work imaginative and well paced. I wish other horror writers understood that you can be chilling and not over do the background of the character and location.

Historia
From the powerful imagination of a horror master comes a bone-chilling tale set in a small town where good and evil are joined in a terrifying, deadly battle. Once an idyllic Pennsylvania village, Pine Deep awoke one morning to find itself bathed in a massive bloodletting. Twice in 30 years, the townsfolk have endured the savage hungers of a murderous madman—but if the residents think the death of serial killer Karl Ruger put an end to the carnage, they’re dead wrong.

Interesting story, but not the right narrator
Revisado: 07-21-18
It is an interesting story but Neil Gaiman reads it like a lullaby/bedtime story. His voice is too soothing and I feel like I’m listening to a children’s book. It is almost as bad as when there is a really awful narrator that kills a book for me (Gaiman is far from bad but to me feels like such a mismatch from his story it is distracting and makes me want to give up - but I don’t because I want to know what happens next. It is frustrating.

Historia
Space is a world devoid of the things we need to live and thrive: air, gravity, hot showers, fresh produce, privacy, beer. Space exploration is in some ways an exploration of what it means to be human. How much can a person give up? How much weirdness can they take? What happens to you when you can’t walk for a year? Have sex? Smell flowers? What happens if you vomit in your helmet during a space walk? Is it possible for the human body to survive a bailout at 17,000 miles per hour?

OK, but probably better in print.

The format of the book (using footnotes and endnotes) was awkward and many of the jokes fell flat. The author reads it going for a dry sense of humor but it seems a weak attempt.

Historia
Danny North is the first Gate Mage to be born on Earth in nearly 2,000 years, or at least the first to survive and claim his power, for families of Westil in exile on Earth have a treaty that requires the death of any suspected Gate Mage. The wars between the families had been terrible until at last they realized it was their own survival in question. But a Gate Mage, one who could build a Great Gate back to Westil, would give his own family a terrible advantage over all the others and reignite the wars. So it was decided that they all had to die.

Good wrap up of the trilogy but muddles its way to the end
Revisado: 07-28-16
I found that this third book seems to wander and lose focus more so than the other two. The magic system, although well thought out, seems overly complex which forces the author to spend inordinate amounts of time explaining/justifying it. And, the high school banter can seem forced or falls into a battle of one liners. Overall, it is an enjoyable story with interesting characters but, the previous 2 books are superior.

Revisado: 05-21-16
I wasn't sure if this would have any kind of story behind the gore and sex that was mentioned. I have to say it was great. Not only graphic but it had a well thought out twisted story, interesting main character, and great narration. I will definitely be getting more books from this author and narrator in the future.
